About the Role
We are seeking a qualified General Surgeon to join our General Surgery & Trauma Service as a Trauma Fellow in Auckland, New Zealand. This is a full-time, fixed-term fellowship for 12 months, commencing in February 2027.
The Te Toka Tumai - Auckland Trauma Service provides trauma care for the Central Auckland population of approximately 400,000 people, as well as major trauma services for the wider Auckland and North Shore catchments, serving a population of more than one million. Te Toka Tumai Auckland admits over 1,800 trauma patients each year, of whom approximately 350 meet the criteria for major trauma.
Fellows will gain extensive experience in the assessment, decision-making and management of trauma and acute surgical patients, along with valuable operative experience. The fellowship also offers a broad range of educational opportunities, including participation in teaching, multidisciplinary learning, and simulation activities. Clinical research opportunities are available within the Department and in collaboration with the University of Auckland, with opportunities to contribute to both national and international trauma and acute surgery initiatives.
This fellowship is designed to provide tailored training that builds on each Fellows existing surgical skills and experience, supporting their professional development through a structured and progressive programme.
The role is primarily based at Auckland City Hospital. However, flexibility is required, as the position supports services across both sites, and you may be required to work at Greenlane Clinical Centre to meet departmental service needs.

About you: Important Skills
Ideally, you will be nearing the completion of, or have recently completed, a General Surgery training programme recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or an equivalent international training body and be seeking additional structured training in this subspecialty.
Applications are invited from candidates who have completed a recognised surgical training programme in General and Emergency Surgery.
