About the role

Posting Description:

Legal Counsel / Adviser - Employment Law (UK)

Are you a employment lawyer with strong UK employment law experience, thinking about a move in-house or your next step in-house? If you’re looking for a role where you can get closer to the business, influence real decisions and work in a hybrid environment, we’d love to hear from you. This opportunity is based in either London or Manchester, and offers a mix of home and office working.

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.

As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

You will partner closely with HR and business stakeholders, providing clear, practical advice across a wide range of UK employment law matters. Your work will span the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and contracts through to complex employee relations issues, restructures and exits.

You will advise on areas including redundancy, TUPE, disciplinary and grievance matters, restrictive covenants and Employment Tribunal claims, working with external counsel where needed. You will also support policy development, deliver training, and help embed best practice across the business.

Alongside your UK focus, you may also gain exposure to wider EMEA matters, working as part of a well-connected global legal function.

How this opportunity is different

This is a chance to step into a highly visible role where your advice directly shapes business decisions. You will work with a wide range of stakeholders, giving you real breadth and variety in your day-to-day work.

We offer a genuinely flexible and inclusive environment, where different backgrounds and career paths are valued. Whether you are coming from private practice or already in-house, you will be supported to grow your career and develop your skills in a commercial, people-focused setting.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales (or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ PQE in employment law, gained in private practice or in-house.

Strong knowledge of UK employment law with experience advising on complex employee relations matters

Experience supporting redundancy programmes, TUPE and organisational change

Ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders and provide practical, commercially focused advice

Strong communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently while being part of a collaborative team

Experience of the insurance, reinsurance, retirement or investment sectors is helpful but not essential.
