Markel is seeking a Sr. People Analytics Data Analyst to join our HR Technology & Analytics team. In this role, the incumbent will serve as a fully competent analytics professional responsible for independently developing and maintaining scalable data solutions that support enterprise people analytics priorities. This role will build and optimize data pipelines that transform Workday data and integrate it with external data sources, design and maintain dashboards relied upon by HR and business partners. This work will be performed primarily in Workday and Microsoft tools.

Key Responsibilities

Own the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of interactive dashboards and visualizations in Power BI and Workday Prism, ensuring reporting assets remain accurate, user-friendly, and aligned to evolving business needs

Build, optimize, and maintain scalable data pipelines in Workday and/or external source systems that transform, join, validate, and prepare data for downstream reporting and analytics

Identify, recommend, and implement automation opportunities that reduce manual reporting effort, improve repeatability, and strengthen operational efficiency

Build and enhance reports using Workday’s native reporting tools, including discovery boards and worksheets, to support recurring reporting, self-service analytics, and ad hoc business needs

Lead data validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting efforts for assigned reporting assets, resolving discrepancies and escalating systemic data quality issues when needed

Partner with business stakeholders and HR Centers of Excellence to understand reporting requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions

Document business rules, metrics definitions, and data lineage to support governance and consistency across reporting assets

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Human Resources, Business Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

5+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, HR analytics, reporting, or a related analytical discipline

Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines or automated workflows using Alteryx or a similar ETL tool

Experience developing and maintaining dashboards and data visualizations in Power BI or a similar BI tool

Demonstrated ability to analyze data and communicate insights clearly

Strong data quality mindset with the ability to validate outputs, document assumptions, and apply consistent business rules across reporting assets

Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality

Ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting requests in a fast-paced environment

Preferred (Not Required)

Experience working in People Analytics, Workforce Analytics, HR Technology, HR reporting, or another analytics function supporting people-related data

Experience with Workday, Workday Prism, Workday reporting, discovery boards, or another major HRIS/ERP platform

Exposure to Python, R, or other scripting/statistical tools used for data preparation, analysis, or automation

Experience connecting data across multiple systems and explaining how data structure, quality, and lineage affect reporting outcomes

Familiarity with HR concepts, employee lifecycle data, workforce metrics, or governance practices related to people data

Experience creating reusable datasets, metric definitions, documentation, or reporting standards that improve consistency and self-service analytics

Pay information:

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary range for the Sr. People Analytics Data Analyst is $78,000 to $107,250 with 15% incentive.
