About the role

WebCreek is looking for a Senior Data Engineer with strong Python and RESTful API development experience for an on-site role in Houston, TX. This position is ideal for an experienced data-focused engineer who can design, build, and support enterprise-level data architecture, backend services, APIs, and data solutions in complex business environments.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with Python, FastAPI, REST API development, relational and non-relational databases, SQL optimization, ETL pipeline design, event-driven architecture, CI/CD workflows, and production support. This role requires someone who can work closely with business and technical teams to understand data needs, build reliable services, and deliver scalable solutions that support enterprise operations.

What You'll Do:

Design, develop, maintain, and support backend services and data solutions using Python.

Build and consume RESTful APIs, with hands-on experience using FastAPI.

Design and implement enterprise-level data architecture to support business and technical requirements.

Work with relational databases and write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries.

Support non-relational database technologies and apply them appropriately based on use case.

Design and implement custom ETL pipelines and event-driven systems at scale.

Collaborate with application teams, data teams, business analysts, QA teams, and stakeholders to deliver reliable technical solutions.

Support CI/CD workflows and development automation using tools such as GitHub and Jenkins.

Work with Elastic Stack technologies, including Elasticsearch, Kibana, and APM, for log aggregation, search, monitoring, and application performance visibility.

Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to APIs, databases, data flows, performance, and system reliability.

Use AI-assisted development tools to support software design, code generation, research, and technical decision-making.

Maintain code quality, documentation, and best practices for backend, API, and data engineering work.

What You Bring:

5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, backend development, or enterprise data application development.

Strong proficiency in Python and Python fundamentals.

Hands-on experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.

Required experience with FastAPI.

Solid experience with relational databases and strong SQL skills.

Ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries.

Working knowledge of non-relational database technologies and their appropriate use cases.

Experience designing and implementing ETL pipelines.

Experience with event-driven architecture and scalable data workflows.

Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools such as GitHub and Jenkins.

Familiarity with Elastic Stack, including Elasticsearch, Kibana, and APM.

Strong analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently, understand complex systems, and deliver high-quality solutions.

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):

Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience working in oil and gas, energy, or enterprise data environments.

Familiarity with oil and gas operations or industry-specific data concepts.

Experience supporting production systems and business-critical applications.

Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar platforms.

Experience with cloud platforms is a plus, but this is not primarily a cloud infrastructure role.
