PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Consultant DevOps Engineer is responsible for overseeing configuration management processes and DevOps automation frameworks to support software development and deployment. This role involves designing and implementing new automation solutions, maintaining system integrity, and ensuring continuous improvement through technology evaluation and process optimization. Additionally, this position will lead documentation efforts, training programs, and propose new tools and technologies to enhance the agency’s software testing and application management capabilities.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Designs, implements, and maintains automation solutions to improve configuration management processes and efficiency.

2. Evaluates existing systems, applications, and testing tools, identifying opportunities to replace or improve technologies.

3. Designs, implements, and maintains continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and automation frameworks for deployment, testing, and configuration management.

4. Reviews industry best practices and emerging technologies, proposing innovative solutions to enhance configuration management workflows.

5. Ensures compliance with change control processes, maintaining system integrity across development and production environments.

6. Oversees repository management, version control practices, and automated deployment strategies.

7. Develops and maintains technical documentation, ensuring automation scripts, tools, and workflows are properly documented.

8. Conducts training sessions for developers and IT teams on new automation tools, configurations, and best practices.

9. Monitors system performance and identifies areas for optimization in configuration management and automated workflows.

10. Collaborates with software development, DevOps, and IT teams to ensure seamless software releases and integrations.

11. Ensures security standards and best practices are followed in configuration management and automation solutions.

12. Acts as a technical consultant for internal teams, advising on automation strategies, software upgrades, and technology investments.

13. Leads discussions on continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing software deployment and testing processes.

14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The individual assigned to this position must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, which include, but are not limited to the following:

· Tasks involve extended periods of time in a stationary position.

· Lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.

· Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.

· The ability to accurately communicate with others in the Department and throughout the Agency.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

5+ years of experience in configuration management, automation development, and technology evaluation.

Proven experience in software development automation, deployment strategies, and application testing tools.

Technical Skills & Expertise:

Configuration Management & Automation:

Expertise in configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, or SaltStack.

Experience in designing and implementing automation frameworks for software deployment and system monitoring.

Strong understanding of DevOps practices and integrating automation in development pipelines.

Hands-on experience with source code repositories like Git, Azure DevOps, or Team Foundation Server (TFS).

Ability to assess automation tools and propose new technologies for process improvement.

Software Development & Testing:

Experience in programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript for automation scripting.

Knowledge of application testing frameworks and strategies for automating testing workflows.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure Pipelines.

Strong working knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices.

Infrastructure & System Administration:

Experience managing Windows/Linux environments, including server configurations and network architecture.

Knowledge of cloud-based automation tools and hybrid cloud integration.

Understanding of security principles and compliance standards in configuration management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent communication and collaboration skills for leading training sessions and technical discussions.

Ability to research and recommend emerging technologies to improve configuration management and automation processes.

Industry-standard certifications in DevOps, automation frameworks, or cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) are highly desirable.

Pay: $80.00 - $95.00 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Cleveland, OH 44109
