Job Profile – Mud Engineer / Field Specialist IV (FLD_FLD-I)

Job Purpose

The Field Specialist IV (Mud Engineer) is responsible for planning, monitoring, and optimizing drilling fluid systems to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling operations. This role provides technical expertise in drilling fluids engineering, wellbore stability, solids control, and well construction support while ensuring compliance with Baker Hughes operational and HSE standards. The incumbent serves as the primary drilling fluids representative at the wellsite, delivering technical recommendations and high-quality service in both onshore and offshore environments.

Key Responsibilities

Drilling Fluids Management

Design, implement, and maintain drilling fluid systems in accordance with well objectives and customer requirements.

Monitor drilling fluid properties and recommend treatments to optimize performance, wellbore stability, hole cleaning, formation protection, and rate of penetration (ROP).

Maintain appropriate mud weight, rheology, filtration control, and chemical properties.

Control drilling fluid costs while maintaining operational effectiveness.

Evaluate drilling trends and provide recommendations to mitigate operational risks.

Support completion, displacement, and workover fluid operations when required.

Operational Execution

Provide real-time drilling fluids engineering support during drilling operations.

Monitor fluid performance and operational parameters.

Coordinate chemical product usage, inventory management, and logistics planning.

Supervise mixing, treatment, and maintenance of drilling fluid systems.

Participate in operational planning, daily operations, and post-well review meetings.

Support troubleshooting and resolution of fluid-related drilling challenges.

Technical Analysis & Reporting

Collect, analyze, and interpret mud testing results.

Conduct laboratory and field testing of drilling fluids.

Monitor solids control performance and recommend corrective actions.

Identify and mitigate fluid-related issues such as lost circulation, differential sticking, wellbore instability, fluid losses, contamination, torque, and drag.

Prepare daily mud reports, engineering summaries, operational recommendations, and inventory tracking documentation.

Maintain data integrity within digital reporting platforms.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Demonstrate commitment to Baker Hughes HSE standards and Life Saving Rules.

Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA), participate in Toolbox Talks, and promote a Zero Incident culture.

Ensure safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of drilling fluid products and chemicals.

Utilize Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions are identified.

Support environmental protection initiatives and compliance with applicable regulations.

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of drilling fluids engineering experience.

Experience supporting onshore and offshore drilling operations.

Experience with water-based, oil-based, and synthetic-based drilling fluid systems.

Experience supporting exploration, development, and production wells.
