Position Summary

Together, with the Security Operations Supervisor, the Assistant Security Operations Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the security staff, the regulatory and non-regulatory administrative duties relating to the ASP, and the performance accountability of all subordinate security positions - including the Security Office.

Compensation:$29.75 per hour

Major Responsibilities

Operational Supervision: Directing and coordinating the activities of airport security personnel, including overseeing daily workflows, assignments, and performance accountability.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring the airport security program adheres to both internal Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) needs and federal Transport Canada regulations.

Incident & Emergency Management: Acting as the on-site incident commander during emergencies (e.g., unauthorized access, medical crises, or alarms) and coordinating with law enforcement and paramedics.

Training & Development: Delivering training and refresher courses to staff on security procedures, workplace searches, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness.

Administrative Management: Maintaining regulatory and non-regulatory documentation, preparing daily security reports, and managing staff.

Equipment Oversight: Monitoring and ensuring the proper functioning of security technology, including CCTV systems, access control, and alarm monitoring software

Monitoring: Conducting regular inspections and facility walk-throughs to identify potential safety or security hazards.

Investigations: Leading investigations into security breaches, complaints, or injuries and reporting findings to HIAA Security Management.

Stakeholder Liaison: Serving as a primary point of contact between security staff, management, and external agencies like local law enforcement or the TSA/FAA in specific contexts.

Patrol Oversight: Monitoring the activity of guards on patrol to ensure duties are performed effectively.

Conflict Resolution: Resolving disputes between staff, visitors, or employees calmly and according to established protocols.

Training for these posts will be provided during on-the-job training, if a candidate is successful.

Education and Knowledge

Education:

High School diploma/GED

Certifications / Training:

Emergency First Aid

Canadian Airports Security Awareness Program (CASAP)

Human Factors training

Commissionaires Security Officer Course (CSOC)

Aviation Security (AVSEC) training

Ability to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)

Professional/Technical Knowledge:

Be knowledgeable of, or be willing to learn, Canadian Air Transportation Regulations (SOR/88-58), the Halifax Airport Security Plan, and all other pertinent Halifax Airport orders and directives.
