Overview
We are hiring a Senior Business Analyst with a strong data background to support our Data Engineering and Analytics teams. This role requires a candidate who can translate business needs into clear data requirements, work closely with Data Engineers on ingestion, transformation, modelling, and quality requirements, and ensure that downstream analytics and reporting outputs are accurate, governed, and business-ready. The ideal candidate will combine business analysis, data engineering understanding, SQL/data analysis capability, Agile delivery experience, and stakeholder management to drive end-to-end delivery of scalable data and BI solutions.

Responsibilities:
Business Requirements & Data Requirement Documentation:
Lead requirement discovery sessions with business stakeholders, product owners, data engineers, BI developers, QA teams, and platform teams.
Convert business problems into clear, structured requirements including BRDs, FRDs, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, RTM, and functional specifications.
Define data requirements including source systems, data elements, business rules, transformation logic, KPI definitions, reporting grain, filters, hierarchies, and data refresh expectations.
Create and maintain data mapping documents covering source-to-target mappings, field definitions, calculation logic, reference data, exception handling, and validation rules.
Ensure end-to-end traceability from business requirement data source transformation logic data model dashboard/report output.
Data Engineering & Analytics Partnership:
Partner with Data Engineers to document and validate requirements for ETL/ELT pipelines, data ingestion, data transformation, data warehousing, data marts, semantic layers, and reporting datasets.
Understand and communicate data flow across operational systems, APIs, files, cloud platforms, data lakes, warehouses, and BI tools.
Support data profiling, data quality assessment, reconciliation, and root-cause analysis for reporting or pipeline issues.
Work with teams to define reusable metrics, standard dimensions, business glossaries, and governed KPI definitions.
Collaborate on solution design discussions involving data models, business logic, access requirements, security considerations, and downstream analytics consumption.
Process Mapping, Discovery & Solution Definition:
Document as-is and to-be processes, data flows, system interactions, user journeys, and operational workflows.
Create process maps, BPMN diagrams, wireframes, prototypes, functional workflows, and solution walkthrough materials.
Identify process gaps, manual workarounds, reporting inefficiencies, automation opportunities, and data-quality risks.
Translate business workflows into measurable data outcomes and reporting requirements.
Agile Delivery & Backlog Management:
Work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Data Engineering Leads, and BI teams to maintain a well-prioritized and delivery-ready backlog.
Write clear user stories with acceptance criteria, business value, dependencies, assumptions, data requirements, and Definition of Ready/Definition of Done alignment.
Participate actively in backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, demos, and release-readiness discussions.
Support estimation, dependency tracking, impact assessment, scope clarification, sprint readiness, and stakeholder sign-offs.
Track requirements, decisions, risks, issues, and delivery progress using tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
UAT, Data Validation& Quality Alignment:
Prepare UAT strategy, scenarios, test cases, expected results, and business validation packs for data and reporting solutions.
Validate outputs against source systems, transformation rules, KPI definitions, business logic, and acceptance criteria.
Work with QA and Data Engineering teams on defect triage, root-cause analysis, retesting, prioritization, and closure.
Support data reconciliation, exception analysis, regression testing, and business sign-off before release.
Stakeholder Management& Communication:
Act as the bridge between business stakeholders, Data Engineering, BI, QA, Product, and platform teams.
Facilitate workshops, requirement reviews, solution walkthrough, sprint demos, and sign-off discussions.
Translate complex data concepts into simple business language and convert business expectations into clear technical requirements.
Maintain strong documentation discipline, decision logs, stakeholder communications, and change-control records.
About you
Qualifications:
7–10+ years of overall experience, with significant experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Analytics Consultant, BI Analyst, or Data-focused Product/Delivery Analyst.
Strong experience working on data engineering, data warehousing, BI, analytics, reporting, or enterprise data platform projects.
Strong hands-on understanding of SQL, data analysis, data profiling, data validation, reconciliation, joins, aggregations, and KPI calculations.
Good understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, data pipelines, data ingestion, transformation logic, data lakes, data warehouses, data marts, semantic models, and reporting layers.
Experience documenting BRDs, FRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, RTMs, source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, business glossaries, and process flows.
Experience with BI/reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms; Power BI exposure is preferred.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery models with tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
Strong communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and documentation skills.
Preferred/Good-to-Have Skills:
Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, or GCP.
Working knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, metadata management, lineage, master data, and access/security controls.
Ability to read and understand basic SQL queries, data models, ER diagrams, pipeline logic, and dashboard calculations.
Experience in insurance, financial services, healthcare, consulting, shared services, or global capability centre environments.
Certifications in Agile, Scrum, Business Analysis, Data Analytics, Power BI, Azure, or cloud data platforms are an advantage.
