JOB TITLE: Graphic Designer
DIVISION: Advertising and Marketing FLSA CODE: Non-Exempt/Hourly
DESCRIBE PRIMARY REASON JOB EXISTS:
Under general direction of the Deputy Director of Advertising and Marketing, works as part of a team to create and produce graphics in various formats to promote the New Mexico Lottery, its products and its beneficiaries.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
FUNCTION: Computer Graphics: Frequency: Daily 70-80% approximately of the time
Major Duties:
1. Creates and produces graphics for use in various formats, including, but not limited to, instant tickets, point-of-sale materials, digital and social media, retailer signs, and publications.
2. Works with a variety of individuals both internally and externally to meet required specifications and ensure quality control.
3. Designs and produces signage, often including laying vinyl and trimming with a sharp knife, to promote the New Mexico Lottery, its products, and its beneficiaries.
4. Conducts site visits at Lottery retailers to measure and install Lottery signage.
5. Creates animated motion graphics for digital media as assigned.
6. Creates radio and video content, as assigned, including animation, filming, set preparation, production, and execution of spots.
FUNCTION: Ancillary Duties Frequency: Daily approximately 10% of the time
Major Duties:
1. Prepares specifications for assigned projects.
2. Inspects proofs and samples to ensure adherence to required specifications.
3. Assists other departments within the Lottery with design requests.
4. Photographs and films winners, events, promotions and products..
5. Assists with special events and promotions as assigned.
6. Updates sections of the Lottery’s website as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Frequency: Daily - approx. 10% of the time

TYPICAL COMPETENCIES:
KNOWLEDGE: (Describe specialized knowledge required)
Well-developed knowledge of digital graphics, illustration and design. Ability to operate large format printer. Basic knowledge of the offset printing process and preparing art for commercial printers. Working knowledge of Adobe software including Photoshop, Illustrator, GoVisually, and InDesign.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must be creative and possess well-developed design abilities using computerized equipment and specialized software. Also capable of using a variety of tools including, but not limited to, hand tools (including box cutters), power tools, and cutting instruments. Good cutting skills are required. Must be able to work in a team environment, but also able to work independently on projects alone. Capable of driving up to 7 hours during work hours alone. Capable of measuring and installing signage at Lottery retailers.

REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Work is largely sedentary; performed in an office setting. Occasional work in an outdoor environment.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in Marketing, Design, Communications or related field is preferred. Post High School coursework in graphic design and illustration is needed as well as training in the use of graphic design software programs. Applicant must possess sufficient experience wherein the ability to perform the position’s duties has been adequately demonstrated.
Professional Experience: One year of professional experience in Graphic Design or a related field is required; three to four years is preferred.
