About the role

Your Role

At ZEISS, we enable researchers and clinicians around the world to gain deeper insights into biological systems and disease mechanisms. As part of our business unit for life sciences, you will develop and characterize advanced 2D and 3D cell culture models and help test innovative lab devices, prototypes and proof-of-concept setups that drive next-generation solutions.

As Lab Scientist – 2D/3D Cell Culture Systems, you will:

Establish, maintain and optimize 2D and 3D cell culture models (e.g. spheroids, organoids, co-cultures) for internal studies and device evaluations

Design and perform experiments to assess cell viability, differentiation, functionality and morphology

Plan and execute tests of new lab devices, prototypes and proof-of-concept setups

Document, analyze and critically evaluate experimental data; translate results into clear feedback and requirements for product development and engineering teams

Support basic automation or data handling via simple scripts (e.g. to structure data, run analysis pipelines or control standard equipment interfaces)

Help define and improve standard operating procedures, quality and safety guidelines in the laboratory

Present findings to internal stakeholders and, where applicable, support customer demonstrations, trainings or workshops

This role is linked to a project with an expected run time of 1,5 years and provides the opportunity to gain experience in an innovative environment at ZEISS.

Your Profile

A university degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences or a related field; a PhD or equivalent experience is an advantage but not a must, i.e. please also apply without a PhD

Practical experience with 2D and 3D cell culture systems in an academic, clinical or industrial setting is required

Hands-on skills in standard cell biology methods (e.g. media preparation, passaging, staining, viability and functional assays) are a must and with 3D cell culture systems, like organoids, a strong plus

High affinity for laboratory technology and instrumentation; you enjoy trying out new devices, prototypes and workflows and can provide structured feedback on usability and performance

Ideally, first experience or interest in basic scripting (e.g. Python or comparable tools) for data handling, simple analysis or interaction with lab equipment

A structured, reliable and pragmatic way of working, with high awareness of quality and laboratory safety

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary, international teams

Very good English skills; German skills are an advantage
