Purpose of the Role
The HR Generalist plays a key role in delivering efficient, accurate and values led HR and People & Culture support across Portobello Institute. The role requires strong administrative capability, working knowledge of Irish employment law, and confidence in managing day to day HR & People & Culture operations.
This role also supports smooth department operations and you will support ER matters, maintain HR systems, prepare documentation, support engagement initiatives, and contribute to the implementation of the People & Culture strategy. We

You will provide high quality, values-led HR, People & Culture support across operations, compliance, digital systems, recruitment coordination, onboarding, HR reporting and culture initiatives. This role suits someone organised, proactive, and confident in handling people related queries in a thriving and growing organisation.
Responsibilities
Employee Lifecycle & Day to Day People Support
Respond to routine HR queries clearly and professionally
Provide first line support on basic ER matters
Prepare contracts, onboarding packs and employee documentation
Track probation, performance cycles and contract changes
Deliver HR induction and support exit processes
Maintain accuracy and compliance across all employee records
Culture, Engagement & Strategy Delivery
Support People & Culture strategy implementation
Assist with engagement projects, events and company days
Contribute ideas for wellbeing, communication and culture
Employment Law & Compliance
Apply working knowledge of Irish employment legislation
Support WRC aligned documentation, GDPR standards and audit readiness
Ensure P&C actions and communications are compliant and accurate
Records, Systems & Digital Operations
Maintain BrightHR, SharePoint and digital records
Demonstrate strong systems capability, including Microsoft 365
Support IT onboarding/offboarding and promote safe AI use
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate P&C processes
Payroll Support
Prepare accurate monthly payroll inputs
Track leave, changes and allowances
Flag irregularities and maintain strict confidentiality
Recruitment & Onboarding
Coordinate interviews, references and right to work documentation
Prepare welcome materials and access requests
Support managers with structured recruitment processes
Department Support
Maintain smooth operations when the Head of People & Culture is out of office
Prioritise workload independently and manage routine escalations
Data, Reporting & HR Metrics
Maintain P&C trackers and compile basic HR metrics

You Will Bring
Minimum 4 years’ consistent full time HR operations experience
Working knowledge of Irish employment law
Confidence responding to day to day team member queries
Comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels
Experience with HRIS and strong digital capability
Excellent organisation, attention to detail and follow through
Strong communication skills and a calm, confidential approach
Ability to manage competing priorities independently
A values driven mindset and belief in the work we do
Experience with payroll processes (desirable)
Experience in education or a values led sector (desirable)

Essential to Have
Competent user of a HRIS and SharePoint, Microsoft Forms and Microsoft 365
Experience contributing to culture, wellbeing or engagement initiatives
Strong knowledge of recruitment processes and best practices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Comfort using digital tools, safe AI practices and process improvement methods
Consistent working knowledge of Irish Employment Law
Pay: €45,000.00-€48,000.00 per year
