We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Financial Control team at the Department of Customer Service. This role supports the delivery of accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory obligations, and the provision of financial accounting services across the organisation.

As an Accountant, you will contribute to financial reporting, reconciliations and statutory returns, while supporting the preparation of interim and annual financial statements. Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the business and shared service providers, you will help ensure financial information is accurate, compliant and delivered on time to support effective decision-making.

Salary, Clerk Grade 7/8: $116,981 - $129,492+ super, commensurate with experience

Based in Sydney CBD with hybrid and flexible working options available

Key accountabilities

Prepare regular and timely financial reporting, reconciliation and returns to ensure effective compliance of statutory obligations and facilitate informed decision making.

Collaborate with shared service providers to ensure financial transactions and services are delivered accurately and within agreed timelines.

Assist in the preparation of interim and annual financial statements to ensure compliance with accounting standards and reporting deadlines.

Provide financial advice, training and support to stakeholders to assist the effective management of financial activities.

Contribute to the development, review, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and processes to strengthen compliance, controls, and operational efficiency.

Prepare and contribute to financial reports, business cases, briefing notes, and other submissions, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.

Analyse financial data and systems to identify issues, support reporting obligations, and drive continuous improvement.

Support month-end and year-end activities, including reconciliations, reporting and compliance requirements.

Key requirements

Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

Professional membership CA or CPA.

Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, NSW Treasury Circulars, and relevant legislation.

Demonstrated experience in financial accounting within a large or complex organization.

Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, TM .

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
