Job Description and Duties

The School Fiscal Services Division (SFSD) of the California Department of Education (CDE) is the right team for you. Under the supervision of the Supervisor I in the Information Services Unit (ISU) A of the Financial Accountability and Information Services (FAIS) Office and working cooperatively with California Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and program units throughout the Department, this position provides analytical support to FAIS and the Fiscal Oversight & Support Office (FOS). These teams work collaboratively to support California LEAs in all areas related to budgeting, accounting and reporting financial information using complex data systems; and, monitor the fiscal solvency of the LEAs under the oversight of the CDE.
The incumbent will assist with testing and troubleshooting forms and reports used by LEAs to report financial information in the Standardized Account Code Structure (SACS) Web System; assist in the development, implementation of Unaudited Actuals “Workflow” processes used in the collection, review, and validation of year-end financial data; assist the LEAs with system issues and questions over the telephone and in writing; assist in retrieval and analysis of data used in assessing the fiscal health of school districts and in making financial management and policy decisions; participate in staff meetings and conference planning activities.

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.

Ability to effectively research and interpret laws, regulations, policies, and data. Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to positively interact with a wide rage of people. Basic understanding of data processing systems, computer software programs and tools, electronic transmission of data, and communications systems. Adeptness to divide attention amongst multiple assignments and time-sensitive projects and meet deadlines. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel. A self-starter, flexible, have a positive attitude, and excellent attendance.
