The Role: Cloud Platform Engineer

We're looking for an experienced software engineer who enjoys working close to cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and developer platforms.

While you'll work extensively with Kubernetes, Terraform, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and production systems, you'll also write production-quality software, build internal tooling, automate complex workflows, improve developer experience, and contribute to platform engineering initiatives.

Engineers in this role work across a variety of projects and technical domains. One engagement may focus on platform engineering, while the next could involve building services, developing migration tooling, improving observability, or implementing backend APIs. We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving different types of technical challenges and are comfortable moving between software development and platform engineering as priorities evolve.

What You'll Do

Build Software

Design, develop, test, and maintain production-quality software using Python, Java, or similar languages.

Build internal developer tooling, automation services, command-line utilities, and backend applications.

Develop APIs, integrations, and automation that improve platform reliability and developer productivity.

Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following software engineering best practices.

Cloud Infrastructure & Automation

Design, implement, and manage secure, scalable, and highly available infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to provision and manage cloud environments.

Continuously improve cloud infrastructure for reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.

Support infrastructure modernization initiatives and cloud platform improvements.

CI/CD & Deployments

Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and GitLab CI.

Execute and coordinate application and infrastructure deployments across development, test, staging, and production environments.

Troubleshoot deployment issues and continuously improve release processes.

Change Management & Operations

Raise, manage, and coordinate change requests through established change management processes.

Ensure production changes are planned, documented, communicated, and executed successfully.

Partner with development and operations teams to minimize deployment risk and improve operational excellence.

Participate in production support and operational troubleshooting as required.

Containerization & Platform Engineering

Containerize Java and Python applications using Docker.

Deploy and manage workloads using Kubernetes.

Support platform reliability, scalability, and container orchestration best practices.

Monitoring & Reliability

Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, the ELK Stack, and cloud-native monitoring and observability platforms (e.g., AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Google Cloud Operations Suite).

Monitor infrastructure health and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.

Support incident response and continuous service improvement initiatives.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with software engineers, architects, infrastructure teams, and client stakeholders throughout project delivery.

Proactively coordinate across multiple teams to remove blockers and ensure deliverables stay on schedule.

Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Take ownership of deliverables by following up with stakeholders and driving work through to completion.

What You Bring

Must-Have Experience

5+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Platform Engineering.

Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or similar languages.

Strong experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

Hands-on experience building and managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform.

Experience planning and executing application and infrastructure deployments.

Experience raising and managing production change requests within formal change management processes.

Strong experience with CI/CD platforms including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and GitLab CI.

Experience containerizing applications using Docker and deploying workloads with Kubernetes.

Experience supporting Java and Python application deployments.

Strong scripting skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages.

Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, the ELK Stack, and cloud-native monitoring tools.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and proactively drive work to completion.

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with GitHub Enterprise Server.

Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.

Knowledge of cloud security and container security best practices.

Experience working within Agile delivery teams.

Experience supporting enterprise production environments.

Why You'll Love This Role

Build Modern Cloud Platforms: Help design and improve cloud infrastructure that powers mission-critical applications for leading organizations.

Own the Deployment Process: You'll have significant ownership over CI/CD, deployments, infrastructure automation, and operational excellence.

Work with Great Engineers: Collaborate with experienced software engineers, architects, and cloud specialists who care deeply about quality and continuous improvement.

Meaningful Client Impact: Your work will directly improve the reliability, scalability, and delivery speed of systems used by enterprise clients.

Continuous Learning: Technology evolves quickly, and so do we. You'll have opportunities to work with modern cloud technologies, automation tooling, and evolving DevOps best practices.

Why This Might Not Be a Fit

You prefer infrastructure work exclusively and don't enjoy software development.

You're only comfortable writing automation scripts and not production software.

You don't enjoy working across different technologies and client environments.

You prefer narrowly defined responsibilities over varied engineering challenges.
