About the role
Position Title: UI Automation Test Engineer (Embedded Systems)
Job Summary
We are looking for a UI Automation Test Engineer to design, develop, and maintain
automated test frameworks for graphical user interfaces running on embedded
devices (touchscreens, HMIs, control panels). The role involves validating UI behavior,
responsiveness, and functionality on resource-constrained hardware, often in
coordination with firmware and hardware teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain automated UI test scripts/frameworks for
embedded HMI/touchscreen applications.
Execute manual and automated test cases on target embedded hardware (not
just simulators/emulators).
Develop test strategies covering UI navigation, touch/gesture input, rendering,
screen transitions, and localization.
Integrate UI automation suites into CI/CD pipelines for continuous regression
testing.
Work with image-based/OCR test tools (e.g., Squish, Eggplant, Sikuli) or
vendor-specific HMI test tools for embedded UI validation.
Identify, log, and track defects using tools like JIRA; collaborate with
developers to reproduce and resolve issues.
Perform compatibility testing across different display resolutions, hardware
revisions, and firmware versions.
Validate UI performance metrics (response time, frame rate, memory/CPU
usage) on embedded targets.
Set up and maintain test rigs/benches including target hardware, debug
interfaces (JTAG/UART), and power/signal simulation tools.
Collaborate with UX/UI designers and firmware engineers to ensure test cover
age aligns with product requirements.
Create and maintain test documentation: test plans, test cases, traceability m
atrices, and test reports.
Support root cause analysis for UI defects, including field-reported issues.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or
related field.
3+ years of experience in software test automation, with at least 1–2 years
focused on embedded/HMI UI testing.
Hands-on experience with UI automation tools for embedded systems (e.g.,
Squish for Qt/Embedded, Eggplant, Ranorex, Appium for embedded Android,
or custom image-recognition frameworks).
Proficiency in scripting/programming languages: Python, C/C++, or similar.
Experience testing embedded GUI frameworks (Qt/QML, Android, VxWorks
GUI, or proprietary HMI frameworks).
Familiarity with embedded communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN)
for test setup and debugging.
Understanding of embedded hardware constraints (memory, CPU, display
drivers) and their impact on UI behavior.
Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
Strong debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or serial debug
consoles.
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS,
VxWorks, or embedded Linux.
Knowledge of image recognition/OCR-based test automation techniques.
Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments.
Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 26262, MISRA) if
applicable to the domain (medical, automotive, industrial).
Experience with accessibility and localization testing for embedded UIs.
Prior experience in industries such as industrial automation, medical devices,
automotive infotainment, or IoT.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Attention to detail with a quality-first mindset.
Ability to work cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, and software
teams.
Good time management to handle multiple test cycles/releases.
Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹1,200,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
