Principal UX Designer – Clinical AI Experiences

Location: Flexible within the United States

Overview

Oracle Health is seeking a Principal UX Designer to help shape the future of AI-enabled clinical experiences across our healthcare platform. This role is focused on designing intuitive, intelligent, and connected experiences that help clinicians deliver exceptional patient care while reducing cognitive burden, administrative complexity, and unnecessary manual work.

We are looking for an exceptional individual contributor who is equally passionate about design craft, systems thinking, and solving some of healthcare's most complex workflow challenges. As a Principal Designer, you'll lead through influence, partnering closely with Product Management, Engineering, Clinical stakeholders, Research, and fellow designers to define experience strategy, drive vision to execution with high craft, and raise the quality bar across the organization.

This role requires someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys working across multiple teams, has an impeccable sense of aesthetic and design judgement, and can connect disparate products into cohesive end-to-end experiences. As AI continues to reshape healthcare, you'll play a central role in designing AI-enabled clinical workflows that help clinicians spend less time navigating technology and more time caring for patients.

What You'll Do

Lead experience design for complex clinical workflows spanning multiple products, user roles, and care settings.

Define experience strategy that aligns clinician needs, business priorities, AI capabilities, and technical constraints.

Design AI-enabled clinical experiences that simplify decision-making, reduce friction, and surface the right information at the right time.

Reimagine traditional healthcare workflows by identifying opportunities where AI can automate repetitive tasks, guide clinician action, surface meaningful insights, and reduce administrative work while maintaining clinician trust and oversight.

Create thoughtful interaction models that balance intelligent automation with transparency, explainability, and human judgment.

Identify where AI should act as a guide, where it should automate, and where human expertise must remain in control.

Invent and pilot new internal tools, design methods, and team workflows that improve how the organization researches, prototypes, validates, and delivers clinical experiences.

Champion systems thinking by ensuring experiences feel cohesive across multiple Oracle Health applications, products, and technology platforms.

Contribute to and evolve the Oracle Health Design System by creating scalable interaction patterns, components, and AI-enabled design principles.

Rapidly prototype, validate, and iterate on AI-enabled concepts through collaboration with users and cross-functional partners.

Advocate for accessibility, usability, and evidence-based design throughout the product development process.

Mentor fellow designers through design critiques, collaboration, and informal coaching while elevating design quality across the organization.

Required Qualifications

Significant experience designing complex enterprise software, healthcare technology, or other workflow-intensive products.

Exceptional UX, interaction design, information architecture, and systems thinking skills.

A portfolio demonstrating sophisticated design craft across complex products and end-to-end user experiences.

Experience designing across multiple products or platforms while maintaining consistency and usability.

Strong ability to influence product strategy and technical direction without direct authority.

Experience working with enterprise design systems and creating reusable interaction patterns.

Excellent communication, facilitation, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to simplify highly technical or clinically complex workflows into intuitive user experiences.

Comfort experimenting with AI-enabled design practices, internal tools, and new methods of working.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing electronic health records (EHRs), clinical workflows, provider experiences, or other healthcare software.

Experience designing AI-enabled clinical products , clinical decision support, ambient documentation, intelligent workflow automation, or other AI-assisted experiences.

Familiarity with human-AI interaction principles, responsible AI design, and designing for trust in high-stakes environments.

Experience conducting or partnering closely with user research involving physicians, nurses, or other clinical professionals.

Understanding of interoperability, clinical documentation, care coordination, or healthcare operations.

Experience creating internal tools, design system workflows, or team methods that improve design velocity and quality.

Principal Designer Expectations

This role is expected to be a design leader through expertise, execution, and influence.

Successful candidates will:

Demonstrate exceptional design craft and consistently raise the quality of work across the organization.

Lead through influence by building strong partnerships across Design, Product, Engineering, and Clinical teams.

Think holistically, designing systems and workflows rather than isolated screens or features.

Challenge existing assumptions and rethink legacy healthcare workflows from first principles.

Identify opportunities where AI fundamentally changes how clinicians interact with software , shifting work from manual execution toward intelligent collaboration with AI.

Distinguish where AI should automate, where it should guide, and where human judgment should remain central.

Balance innovation with safety, trust, transparency, and clinical accountability.

Invent and test new internal tools, methods, and ways of working that help the team design and deliver better experiences faster.

Embrace experimentation by rapidly exploring, validating, and refining new interaction models.

Actively explore and adopt AI-enabled tools and methods that improve design research, ideation, prototyping, content creation, and overall design operations.

Mentor peers, contribute to design culture, and help establish best practices across the Oracle Health Design organization.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, you will:

Deliver clinical experiences that are intuitive, efficient, and deeply aligned with clinician workflows.

Reduce cognitive burden by designing experiences that surface the right information at the right time.

Create AI-enabled clinical workflows that responsibly automate repetitive tasks while preserving clinician judgment and trust.

Build integrated experiences that feel seamless across Oracle Health's evolving ecosystem of products and services.

Establish scalable interaction patterns that strengthen the Oracle Health Design System.
