Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Power System Protection Engineer to join its Protective Relay Settings team. This role is responsible for developing relay settings, supporting Protection & Control (P&C) design activities, and performing power system analysis using industry-standard software to deliver accurate and reliable protection solutions.

Job Description

Develop protective relay settings, including line, transformer, breaker, and bus protection

Perform relay setting calculations and develop setting files using industry-standard software

Support Protection & Control (P&C) design activities, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring

Conduct power system analysis and modeling using software such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM

Apply industry protection schemes and philosophies for transmission, distribution, and renewable collector substations

Utilize Mathcad and Excel to perform protective relay setting calculations

Configure and support communication protocols such as DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus, including IEC 61850 implementation

Ensure compliance with NERC-PRC and other applicable industry standards

Coordinate with clients and internal teams while preparing technical documentation

Lead small projects, including managing schedules, budgets, staffing, and proposal development

Perform quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) reviews

Mentor and support the development of early-career engineering professionals

Skills Required

5–10 years of experience in the transmission industry

Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience

Strong knowledge of Protection & Control (P&C) design concepts

Experience developing protective relay settings and setting files

Proficiency with power system modeling software, including ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM

Experience using Mathcad and Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations

Knowledge of communication protocols, including DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus

Knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV) and its implementation

Knowledge of NERC-PRC and other applicable industry standards

Excellent written communication and coordination skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Experience leading small projects, including schedule, budget, and resource management

Experience supporting proposal development

Strong leadership and mentoring skills

Experience performing QC/QA reviews

Education/Training/Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
