Job Summary
The Junior Accountant will support the finance department by assisting with accounting tasks, managing financial records, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of financial transactions. This role is crucial to maintaining the financial health of the construction company, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing support for budgeting and cost management, particularly related to ongoing construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Bookkeeping
Assist with maintaining the company's financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
Record and track all financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring compliance with accounting procedures.
Assist in managing cash flow by tracking and reporting on income and expenses.
Invoicing and Payments
Process invoices from suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agreed terms.
Assist with the preparation of invoices for clients and customers based on project milestones or completed work.
Help with processing payments and ensuring timely payment of bills and invoices.
Project Costing and Budgeting
Track and record costs related to construction projects, including labor, materials, and overheads.
Assist in preparing cost reports to track project budgets and expenditures.
Work with project managers to update project cost estimates and ensure financial control over project budgets.
Taxation and Compliance
Assist in preparing tax returns, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
Maintain up-to-date records for tax filings, including VAT, income tax, and other applicable construction-related taxes.
Ensure that financial documents are properly stored and maintained in line with company policy and legal requirements.
Payroll Support
Assist with payroll processing, ensuring that employees’ salaries, deductions, and benefits are accurately calculated.
Maintain payroll records and provide support for timesheet entries and overtime calculations, especially for on-site construction workers.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare basic financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for review by senior accountants or finance managers.
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Support the analysis of financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
Record Keeping and Documentation
Ensure accurate and organized record-keeping for all accounting transactions, including receipts, invoices, contracts, and payment records.
Assist in maintaining filing systems, both physical and digital, for easy retrieval of financial information.
Other Administrative Support
Provide support for financial audits, including preparing documentation and answering audit-related queries.
Assist senior accounting staff in ad-hoc tasks as needed.
Support the preparation of financial statements and assist in month-end closing activities.
Key Skills and Competencies
Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, or similar).
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and clients.
Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion.
Time management skills and the ability to work efficiently under deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
1–2 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in the construction industry.
Knowledge of construction-specific accounting practices, such as job costing, is an advantage.
Familiarity with accounting software and basic tax laws is a plus.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
