The Opportunity
At KBR, we deliver science, technology and engineering solutions that support critical Defence capability. We are seeking a talented and driven Software Engineer to join our high-performing team, focused on the modernisation and enhancement of Electronic Warfare (EW) systems - capabilities essential to protecting Australia’s national interests.

As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop and maintain high-performance applications across complex Defence environments. Working across the full software lifecycle, you will contribute to solving challenging engineering problems from data integration and backend architecture to user interface development and algorithm design.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, implement and maintain software for scientific and engineering applications
Define system and software requirements and translate customer needs into technical solutions
Work within Agile environments using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Git/Bitbucket
Contribute across full-stack development (GUI, backend services, databases, APIs, containerisation)
Identify technical challenges and deliver effective solutions in evolving and ambiguous environments
Collaborate with engineering, SME and project teams to deliver integrated solutions
Ensure compliance with Defence standards, policies, and quality frameworks
Conduct testing, validation and defect resolution activities
Develop and maintain documentation, including software baselines and technical artefacts
Continuously improve system performance, maintainability, and scalability
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or related discipline
7 years’ experience in software development and/or modernisation
Strong foundation in software engineering principles, standards, and best practices
Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, or JavaScript
Exposure to full-stack development, including GUI, APIs, databases and containerisation (e.g. Docker)
Experience in Defence and/or Electronic Warfare environments (highly regarded)
Knowledge of software testing, QA, and validation processes
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex and evolving requirements
Minimum AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance and Australian citizenship required to be eligible.
