Company: Planning Labs Job Type: Full-Time Location: Mumbai Department: Creative Design

About the Role

Planning Labs is looking for a creative, technically strong, and solution-oriented 3D Event, Exhibition & Interior Designer who can independently manage the complete design process - from understanding the brief and developing the concept to creating high-quality 3D renders, working drawings, and production-ready artwork.

The selected candidate will work on both:

Events, exhibitions, brand activations, conferences, and experiential spaces

Residential, commercial, office, retail, and hospitality interior-design projects

We are not looking for someone who only knows how to operate 3D software. We need a designer who can understand requirements, develop creative and practical concepts, work within the client’s budget, prepare realistic visualizations, adapt branding creatives, and coordinate with production and execution teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesEvent and Exhibition Design

Understand client briefs, event requirements, venue dimensions, brand guidelines, production limitations, and budgets.

Conceptualize and design complete event environments, including:

Exhibition booths and stalls

Corporate events and conferences

Stage and backdrop designs

Brand activations

Product launches

Retail and promotional installations

Photo opportunities and experience zones

Create detailed and visually impressive 3D designs using Autodesk 3ds Max.

Produce realistic renders using V-Ray, which is our preferred rendering software. Knowledge of Corona Renderer or Arnold is also acceptable.

Select suitable materials, textures, lighting, furniture, props, and event elements.

Adapt client-provided branding creatives according to the actual dimensions of the event setup.

Place the adapted branding accurately within the 3D design.

Prepare high-resolution, print-ready artwork for event production and printing.

Coordinate with event production and operations teams regarding dimensions, materials, fabrication feasibility, and execution requirements.

Ensure that every design is practical, executable, and aligned with the approved budget.

Interior Design

Understand client requirements, lifestyle needs, functional expectations, site conditions, and project budgets.

Develop complete interior-design concepts for:

Residential spaces

Offices and commercial spaces

Retail stores and showrooms

Hospitality spaces

Reception areas and experience centres

Prepare space-planning layouts based on actual site measurements.

Create 3D visualizations for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, offices, reception areas, cabins, retail spaces, and other interior areas.

Select suitable materials, colours, furniture, lighting, finishes, flooring, ceiling treatments, wall treatments, and décor elements.

Create modular furniture and customised furniture concepts.

Prepare or assist in preparing technical drawings, including:

Furniture layouts

Flooring layouts

Ceiling layouts

Electrical and lighting layouts

Wall elevations

Furniture details

Kitchen and wardrobe details

Basic working drawings

Coordinate with interior execution teams, carpenters, electricians, civil contractors, painters, vendors, and site supervisors.

Make design revisions based on client feedback, site conditions, and execution feasibility.

Ensure that interior designs are aesthetically strong, functional, practical, and achievable within the client’s budget.

Support the site and execution teams by clarifying design details when required.

Required Software Skills

The candidate must have strong working knowledge of:

Autodesk 3ds Max

V-Ray Renderer

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW

Knowledge of the following will be an added advantage:

Autodesk AutoCAD

Corona Renderer

Arnold Renderer

SketchUp

Adobe InDesign

Other event-design, interior-design, visualization, or post-production tools

Print and Production Knowledge

The candidate should understand how to prepare artwork for large-format event printing, including:

Designing according to actual dimensions

Resizing and adapting client-provided creatives

Creating print-ready files

Maintaining appropriate resolution and image quality

Working with bleed, margins, cut lines, and safe areas

Using CMYK colour mode wherever required

Converting fonts and maintaining linked images

Modular and custom furniture

Basic carpentry and joinery

Lighting placement

Electrical requirements

Ceiling and flooring treatments

Material dimensions and production limitations

Site measurements and working dimensions

Budget-conscious material selection

Design feasibility and execution coordination

The candidate is not expected to personally execute the work but should be able to design with a clear understanding of how the design will be produced or constructed.

Creative Expectations

We are looking for someone who:

Can think creatively instead of constantly waiting for instructions from a manager.

Can convert a basic client brief into a strong visual and functional concept.

Regularly studies references from Behance, Pinterest, design websites, architecture platforms, exhibition websites, and other relevant sources.

Uses references for inspiration but develops original, practical, and budget-conscious design solutions.

Can create premium-looking designs while staying within the client’s budget.

Understands visual hierarchy, branding, colours, materials, lighting, spatial planning, functionality, and visitor or user movement.

Can suggest more than one possible design solution when required.

Pays attention to small details that improve the quality and execution of the final design.

Can balance creativity with practical production and site limitations.

Problem-Solving Expectations

The candidate must be proactive and solution-oriented.

We do not want a designer who stops working whenever a technical or design problem arises. If there is an issue with 3ds Max, V-Ray, plugins, textures, file compatibility, rendering, AutoCAD drawings, artwork, materials, or any other software or technical requirement, the designer should first research and attempt to resolve it independently.

The candidate should be comfortable:

Searching for solutions online

Watching tutorials and reading software forums

Testing alternative workflows

Identifying the actual cause of a problem

Communicating problems clearly

Presenting possible solutions instead of only reporting the problem

Coordinating with vendors and execution teams to find practical alternatives

Informing management if a paid plugin, software, asset, training resource, or technical support is genuinely required

The company is open to purchasing necessary resources when they provide a practical and justified solution.

Candidate Profile

Strong portfolio of event, exhibition, booth, stage, activation, interior, or architectural-visualization projects.

Good understanding of event production and interior execution.

Ability to independently manage a design project from brief to final output.

Strong communication and coordination skills.

Comfortable discussing design challenges, timelines, materials, feasibility, and solutions with the team.

Ability to handle multiple projects and work within deadlines.

Strong attention to dimensions, branding accuracy, functionality, finishing details, and file organization.

Open to feedback and capable of implementing revisions professionally.

Self-motivated, responsible, curious, and willing to continuously learn.

Willing to visit event venues or interior sites for measurements, coordination, and execution understanding when required.

Experience

Relevant experience in event design, exhibition design, experiential marketing, interior design, retail design, architectural visualization, or a related field is preferred.

Candidates who have worked on both event and interior-design projects will be given preference.

Candidates with a strong portfolio and practical skills may also be considered even if their formal experience is limited.

Portfolio Requirement

Applicants must share a portfolio containing relevant examples such as:

Event or exhibition booth designs

Stage, conference, activation, or experiential-space designs

Residential or commercial interior designs

Room-wise interior visualizations

Space-planning layouts

Furniture or material concepts

Final 3D renders

Projects designed according to actual dimensions

Print-ready artwork samples, wherever available

AutoCAD or working-drawing samples, wherever available

Photographs of completed projects compared with the original 3D designs, if available

Applications without a relevant portfolio may not be considered.

What We Value

At Planning Labs, we value designers who take complete ownership of their work.

The selected candidate should not work only as a software operator. They should contribute ideas, understand the client’s business and requirements, anticipate challenges, communicate openly, and actively participate in improving the final output.

The ideal candidate will combine:

Creativity, technical capability, interior-design understanding, event-production knowledge, independence, execution awareness, and a strong problem-solving mindset.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
