About the role

Location Dublin, Leinster, Ireland Job ID R-256932 Date posted 22/07/2026

This is what you will do:

The Energy & Sustainability Engineer will support the execution of the site-wide Energy & Sustainability Programme, ensuring all energy systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in line with Alexion’s compliance and decarbonisation objectives. The role will focus on identifying, delivering and sustaining energy reduction initiatives, improving system performance, strengthening environmental reporting, and embedding best-practice energy management across the site.

The incumbent will collaborate closely with the Energy & Sustainability Lead, Engineering, Utilities, Facilities, Manufacturing, and Quality to drive continuous improvement, optimise energy usage, and support the development of a forward-looking, data-driven sustainability roadmap for the site.

The role also requires effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly and professionally present energy issues, performance insights, and project updates to the wider Engineering organisation and cross-functional site teams. The Energy & Sustainability Engineer will help ensure transparency, alignment, and effective decision-making by sharing progress, risks, and technical findings in an accessible and structured way.

You will be responsible for:

Supporting the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the site’s ISO 50001 Energy Management System, ensuring all activities, documentation, and processes remain fully aligned to the standard.

Acting as a system subject matter expert (SME) for site energy systems, utilities performance, and sustainability-related processes.

Supporting the delivery of the Site Energy & Sustainability Programme, including energy reduction projects, decarbonisation initiatives, and environmental compliance commitments.

Leading or supporting energy projects through all phases - concept development, design review, change control, contractor management, execution, commissioning, and verification of benefits.

Leading and supporting Measurement & Verification (M&V) activities for energy projects, ensuring accurate baseline setting, benefit validation, and alignment with relevant M&V protocols.

Reviewing system trends to identify performance drift, reliability concerns, and potential optimisation opportunities, and coordinating corrective actions.

Identifying, analysing, and executing energy optimisation opportunities across engineering and building systems using data-driven methods and trend analysis.

Monitoring energy performance to identify Energy Usage Deviations, leading root-cause investigations, assessing operational and compliance impacts, and coordinating remediation actions (CAPA) to restore optimal performance.

Contributing to the development of the site’s long-term sustainability roadmap, including carbon reduction planning, technology assessments, and strategic programme support.

You will need to have:

A strong technical background with multi‑discipline experience in mechanical, electrical, controls, or energy systems engineering.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Engineering, Utilities, Facilities, or Energy/Sustainability‑related role.

Practical understanding of HVAC, Clean Utilities, and Building Energy Systems, including how they interact with site operations.

Familiarity with Measurement & Verification (M&V) principles, energy baselining, and validation of project savings.

Strong data capability, including experience with energy analytics, BMS/BAS trending, metering systems, and performance dashboards.

Knowledge of decarbonisation pathways, energy-efficiency technologies, and sustainability best practices in industrial or regulated environments.

Proven experience applying root‑cause analysis and structured problem‑solving techniques in an Operational Excellence or similar environment.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate professionally with cross‑functional teams, stakeholders, vendors, and leadership.

Hands‑on experience working with utilities, facilities, or energy performance systems, with a focus on optimisation, reliability, or performance improvement.

We would prefer for you to have:

An engineering degree or equivalent relevant technical experience.

Experience working within the pharmaceutical or regulated industrial sector, ideally supporting engineering, utilities, or energy‑related activities.

The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team, while also demonstrating strong self‑drive and the confidence to progress work independently.

Strong skills in preparing clear, professional technical reports and presentations, with the ability to communicate complex information in a structured and accessible way.
