Your impact

We are seeking a Senior Manager – Expatriate Tax to lead our global expatriate tax program. This role is responsible for overseeing tax compliance, policy, and advisory services related to cross-border employee assignments, while working within a hybrid operating model that combines internal leadership with external service providers.

The Sr. Manager will partner closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, and business leadership to ensure expatriate tax matters are handled in a consistent, compliant, and practical way that supports our global operations.

Key Responsibilities

Expatriate Tax Program Leadership

Lead the overall expatriate tax program, including policy oversight, compliance coordination, and stakeholder support

Ensure consistent and practical application of expatriate tax policies across all regions

Serve as the primary point of contact for complex expatriate tax matters and escalations

Policy and Advisory

Support implementation and maintenance of expatriate tax policies

Advise HR and business leaders on tax implications of international assignments

Provide guidance on assignment staff planning that balances business needs and skill availability with tax-efficient strategies (e.g., short-term vs. long-term assignments, home/host country tax treaties, etc.).

Provide policy exception management

Compliance Oversight

Responsible for managing the external tax provider to ensure timely and accurate:

Preparation and review of individual tax filings for international assignees and other employees authorized for tax services

Annual compliance cycle, including timelines, data collection, and delivery of services

Tax Equalization and Assignment Support

Oversee tax equalization and tax protection processes

Ensure consistent application of policies across all assignees

Provide guidance on complex scenarios, including multi-country assignments and equity compensation

Manage escalations and non-compliance

Payroll, Accounting and Reporting Coordination

Partner with Payroll and Accounting to ensure appropriate handling of expatriate compensation and benefits

Monitor processes between internal functions and the external tax provider to ensure effective handovers of data to support accurate and timely execution (ex. Shadow payroll communications, compensation collection process, reporting, etc.)

Coordination of tax equalization settlement payments, collections, and tracking to completion

Vendor Managemen t

Manage relationships with external expatriate tax service provider

Oversee service delivery, timelines, and quality of work

Address and resolve service issues and identify opportunities for improvement

Invoice coordination and oversight

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and business teams

Provide clear, practical guidance to stakeholders on expatriate tax

Requirements, processes, roles & responsibilities

Support cross-functional coordination to ensure effective program execution

Support the development of Expatriate Tax education resources

Risk Management and Process Improvement

Identify and manage risks associated with cross-border employee activity

Support processes for tracking and managing short-term business travel and remote work, as applicable

Drive continuous improvement in expatriate tax processes to elevate service delivery, strengthen quality, and support audit excellence

Financial Oversight

Monitor costs associated with expatriate tax services and assignments

Support budgeting and forecasting processes

Provide reporting and insights on program activity and cost drivers, including regular communication on outstanding tax equalization liabilities

Here's what you'll need

8+ years of experience in expatriate tax, global mobility tax, or international individual tax

Strong knowledge of tax equalization, cross-border taxation, and global payroll considerations

Experience working with external tax service providers

CPA, JD, or equivalent preferred

Skills and Competencies

Strong technical expertise in expatriate tax

Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and practical way

Experience working across HR, Payroll, Finance, and external vendors

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a global environment

Posted Salary Range: Minimum

133,500.00

Posted Salary Range: Upper

233,500.00

The base salary range for this position is $133,500.00 to $233,500.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
