About the role

At Nexperia Manchester, we are expanding our Applications team with the addition of a Power Electronics Application Engineer. Our Power MOSFET groups supply high-quality devices to the automotive, industrial, computing, and consumer sectors, providing advanced solutions for the electrification of the automotive industry and the high-density power requirements of AI and data centre infrastructure.

We are driving efficiency and reliability in the hardware that powers the future, would you like to be part of it? If so, we offer travel opportunities, huge scope to develop and make a real impact on a global semiconductor manufacturer producing over 100 billion devices every year.

What you will do

As a Power Electronics Application Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for the development and deployment of reliable power protection, power distribution and conversion/control solutions across strategic growth markets. AI infrastructure and telecom will be key focus areas, alongside robotics, solar and energy storage, with a focus on low voltage power MOSFETs.

You will develop deep system level understanding of next generation power distribution architectures, from emerging high voltage DC power architectures in AI through 48V intermediate bus systems common in both AI and telecom. Working closely with other application engineers, product managers, field engineers, sales and key customers, you will help shape application strategy, influence product roadmaps and support new business development in high growth markets.

This role is well suited to candidates with experience in industrial or other high-reliability power electronics applications, such as automotive, who want to apply their expertise to high growth markets such as AI infrastructure and next generation data centre power.

Duties will include:

Designing, debugging and validating MOSFET-based circuits for high current systems

Creating technical literature, demo boards, reference designs, design-in tools, simulations and evaluation testbenches for advanced power distribution architectures, such as 48V power distribution systems

Working closely with the field and directly with customers, translating their requirements, application trends and system level challenges into new product specifications and roadmap inputs

Acting as a capable technical interface for strategic customers, global sales teams, field application engineers and internal stakeholders

Representing the business as a subject matter expert in customer meetings, customer visits, internal technical discussions, training sessions and industry facing activities

What you will need

Essential

A Degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, Physics or a relevant discipline

Significant experience in power electronics, with the ability to operate as a technical authority in customer facing and cross functional environments

The legal right and willingness to travel globally, occasionally on short notice to key technology hubs (e.g. USA/Asia) without significant visa processing delays

Interest in AI infrastructure and Data Centre power systems

Experience of the following would be beneficial

AI infrastructure, data centre, server power, telecoms, industrial, automotive or other high-reliability power systems

Experience working with common power electronics applications and 48V systems

Expertise in circuit simulation (e.g. SIMPLIS, LTspice, PSpice etc) and PCB design.

High current MOSFET operation, MOSFET SOA, transient analysis knowledge and thermal design

Proven expertise in circuit simulation (e.g. LTspice, PSpice, SIMPLIS or equivalent) and PCB design
