JOB SUMMARY

The People, Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and overseeing health and safety compliance across the Specialty Rx division, while providing subject matter support on workplace accommodations, leaves of absence, and occupational and non-occupational cases. This role partners closely with Operations and leadership to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and internal policies, while supporting a safe, inclusive, and operationally effective work environment. The role will also contribute to HR projects and provide back up support for general HR inquiries as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee and support the implementation of health and safety programs across the Specialty Rx division, ensuring compliance with provincial legislation and internal policies

Provide guidance and support on workplace incidents, including occupational and non-occupational matters, ensuring proper documentation, escalation, and follow up

Ensure all workplace incidents are reported, documented, and managed in accordance with company protocols and regulatory requirements

Coordinate and oversee Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities across multiple provinces (including Quebec), ensuring legislative compliance, meeting cadence, documentation, and certification requirements

Partner with the Health and Safety Director to ensure alignment on corporate health and safety initiatives, reporting, and compliance standards

Promote and monitor compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, policies, and programs across the organization.

Maintain current knowledge of health and safety legislation and industry best practices and support the implementation of new provincial regulatory requirements through policy, process, and program updates.

Support the administration and management of employee accommodations, including medical, non-medical, and return-to-work planning, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation (ESA, Human Rights, WSIB/CNESST where applicable)

Manage and support leave of absence cases and case management

Act as a key liaison between employees, managers, and external stakeholders for accommodation and leave related matters

Maintain accurate and confidential records related to health and safety, accommodations, and leave of absence cases

Identify trends and risks related to workplace injuries, absenteeism, and accommodation cases, and provide recommendations to leadership

Partner and support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR and health & safety processes, policies, and programs

Participate in project based work to support HR and operational initiatives across the Specialty Rx division

Provide back up support to the HR Coordinator function, including responding to general HR inquiries, processing requests, and supporting day-to-day HR operations

Partner with leaders to provide guidance on employee relations matters related to attendance, accommodations, leave of absences and health and safety concerns

Ensure compliance with all Bayshore policies, procedures, and applicable provincial and federal legislation

Maintain confidentiality of all employee, patient, and corporate information

Other duties as assigned

This role requires you to be on site for the first three months and then will move to a hybrid work schedule with 3 days on site

Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Health & Safety, or a related field

CHRP or CHRL designation required or in progress; additional health and safety and disability management certifications are considered an asset, including Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR) certification, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), or equivalent.

Minimum 3–5 years of experience in HR, with exposure to health and safety, accommodations, and leave management

Working knowledge of provincial employment standards, human rights legislation, and health & safety regulations (multi-province experience preferred), exposure to Quebec is an asset

Experience supporting WSIB or disability management processes is considered an asset

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices across multiple provinces

Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential employee information with discretion

Strong problem solving and case management skills with attention to detail

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and advise leaders

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Strong organizational and documentation skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems

Advanced analytical skills with the ability to compile, analyze, and interpret HR and health and safety data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for proactive action.
