Mission of the Role:The Mechanical Design Technical Lead is responsible for the design, development, validation, and sustainment of automotive electronic products, ensuring robust mechanical performance, manufacturability, cost competitiveness, and compliance with customer, industry, and internal quality standards. The role serves as a key contributor to product development programs, supporting both new product introduction and series production through technical expertise, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Objectives of this Role:
Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for automotive electronic products, meeting functional, quality, reliability, and cost requirements.
Create, maintain, and release 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using CATIA V5.
Support product lifecycle management activities, including engineering changes, product releases, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct feasibility studies, tolerance stack-up analyses, and Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to ensure robust product designs.
Ensure compliance with internal development processes, customer requirements, and automotive industry standards.
Collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional engineering teams.
Drive project execution to achieve program milestones, technical deliverables, and launch targets.
Provide engineering support to production and manufacturing operations, resolving design-related issues and implementing corrective actions.
Key Performance Indicators
On-Time Delivery: Achievement of assigned engineering and project milestones according to program timing.
Design Quality: First-pass approval rate of CAD models, drawings, and engineering releases with minimal rework.
Product Compliance: Adherence to customer requirements, engineering standards, and internal development processes.
Issue Resolution: Timely resolution of design-related production, validation, and customer issues.
Engineering Change Management: Effective execution and closure of engineering changes within target timelines.
Risk Management: Completion and quality of DFMEA, feasibility studies, and tolerance analyses.
Launch Success: Delivery of product launches without critical mechanical design issues.
Collaboration & Communication: Effective interaction with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to support project objectives.
Continuous Improvement: Contribution to cost reduction, quality improvements, and design optimization initiatives.
Key Year One Deliverables:
Lead mechanical design activities for assigned product components or modules.
Deliver all assigned project milestones on time and with full process compliance.
Contribute to at least one product cost optimization, quality improvement, or design standardization initiative.
Establish effective working relationships with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
Demonstrate ownership of sustaining engineering activities and product lifecycle support.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required.
Master's Degree is considered an advantage.
3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the automotive electronics industry.
Experience in product development from concept through production launch.
Experience supporting serial production products and engineering change management.
Experience working within multidisciplinary and global development teams.
Advanced proficiency in CATIA V5 for:
o 3D parts and assemblies design.
o 2D drawing creation and maintenance.
