ABOUT THE JOB

To carry out high-quality joinery work both on construction/building sites and within the company’s manufacturing factory/workshop. When site work is not available, the role shifts to supporting factory production, ensuring continuity of work, efficient use of time, and consistent quality across all joinery output.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

On Site

Install manufactured joinery items including doors, windows, operator screens and MRI Rooms.

Take accurate measurements and prepare detailed site notes to feed back to the factory.

Cut, shape, and fit timber and sheet materials to exact specifications.

Ensure installations are level, plumb, square, and secure, meeting design and building standards.

Work alongside other trades, following site safety rules and instructions from site supervisors.

Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy working area at all times.

Communicate clearly with clients, site managers, and the factory team regarding progress and any issues.

In the Factory / Workshop

When no site work is scheduled, work within the production facility to manufacture joinery products.

Read and interpret technical drawings, cutting lists, and work orders.

Operate woodworking machinery safely and accurately: saws, planers, thicknessers, routers, sanders, and CNC machinery where trained.

Cut, machine, assemble, and finish timber components and complete joinery items to required dimensions and tolerances.

Check materials and finished products for defects, damage, or incorrect dimensions.

Assist with stock control, material handling, and general workshop maintenance.

Pack and prepare finished items ready for delivery or installation.

General

Follow all company health and safety policies, COSHH regulations, and safe working practices in both environments.

Use and maintain hand tools, power tools, and machinery correctly; report any damage or faults immediately.

Work to deadlines and quality standards, minimizing waste and rework.

Keep accurate records of time worked, materials used, and work completed.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

Essential criteria

Proven experience as a joiner, covering both site installation and workshop work.

Ability to read and understand technical drawings, sketches, and cutting lists.

Competent in using hand tools, portable power tools, and fixed woodworking machinery.

Good knowledge of timber, sheet materials, adhesives, fixings, and finishes.

High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Physically fit, able to stand, bend, lift, and carry materials and components.

Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Valid UK driving licence (preferably Category B) for travel to sites.

Desirable

Formal qualifications in Joinery or Carpentry (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Site Joinery or Bench Joinery).

Experience with fitted window/door installation.

Knowledge of building regulations and British Standards relevant to joinery.

Experience using CNC or automated woodworking machinery.

Previous work in a manufacturing environment.

First Aid or Health & Safety training certification.

CSCS Card/SSSTS/SMSTS

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Experience: Minimum 3–4 years’ experience in joinery, with exposure to both site and workshop work.

Qualifications: Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

Licence: Valid UK driving licence is essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Site work: Outdoor and indoor environments; may involve working at height (using ladders or scaffolding), exposure to weather conditions, dust, and noise.

Factory/workshop: Indoor environment, exposure to wood dust, machinery noise, and occasional use of adhesives and finishes.

Physical demands: Regular lifting and moving of materials and components; manual handling procedures must be followed.

Hours: Standard working week, with flexibility to switch between site and factory locations as workload requires.
