Technical Program Manager - Health AI Research
Skills
About the role
Overview
At Microsoft AI, our Health team is on a mission to help millions of users better understand and proactively manage their health and wellbeing. We’re responsible for ensuring that Microsoft AI’s models and services are useful, trusted and safe across diverse customer health journeys.
We’re assembling a world-class team of builders with backgrounds in healthcare, big tech, and frontier AI research labs. Our goal is to translate cutting-edge research - like MAI-DxO (microsoft.ai/new/the-path-to-medical-superintelligence) - into transformative products for millions of users across Microsoft’s consumer ecosystem.
We're looking for an exceptional Technical Program Manager to lead health AI research programs end-to-end, turning research goals into measurable outcomes. You'll bring deep technical fluency and partner closely with applied AI scientists, researchers, engineers, product managers, and partners across Responsible AI, Compliance, and Legal, among others, to bring structure, drive alignment, and accelerate execution.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realise our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
Partner with research and applied AI science to shape goals, priorities, and success metrics, and own end-to-end execution of complex health AI research programs - managing planning, milestones, dependencies, and risks across the model development lifecycle.
Drive cross-functional execution across research, engineering, clinical, product, and compliance, acting as the connective tissue between teams - translating requirements, managing trade-offs, and keeping critical paths unblocked.
Steer model development and launch readiness against clear safety, quality, privacy, and clinical criteria, and own the operational health of training and evaluation runs, including compute and resource planning.
Bring structure and enablement to fast-moving research - establishing lightweight operating mechanisms and maintaining the artefacts that keep teams aligned.
Communicate progress, risks, and plans, distilling complex technical information into clear insights for leadership, and advocate for the resourcing and focus the team needs to deliver.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
Several years of experience in technical program management, with a track record of delivering complex, cross-functional programs.
Experience delivering AI/ML programs spanning research (pretraining, post-training, and/or evaluation), partnering directly with researchers and applied scientists.
Technical fluency to reason about model training, evaluation methodology, data, and infrastructure trade-offs, engage credibly with researchers and engineers, and stay current on emerging AI approaches.
Ability to bring clarity to complex, ambiguous, and changing research challenges, and comfort doing so at pace.
Strength in translating requirements across research, product, engineering, clinical, and partners such as Compliance, Legal, and Responsible AI, sustaining strong relationships under pressure.
Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence without authority and align stakeholders with different priorities.
A collaborative way of working that fosters accountability, rigour, and continuous improvement.
Additional experience that helps:
Experience in health AI, healthcare technology, or other regulated software environments.
Advanced degree in a technical field (CS/ML) or Life Sciences/ Medicine.
