Job Summary
The Deputy Manager – Merchandising will be responsible for driving business growth while managing end-to-end merchandising operations for domestic and export customers. The role involves acquiring and developing customer accounts, leading commercial negotiations, ensuring profitable order execution, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve revenue, profitability, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction objectives. The incumbent will act as a strategic partner between customers and manufacturing while ensuring operational excellence and sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Customer Management
Develop and acquire new domestic and export business opportunities in line with the organization's growth strategy.
Develop and leverage relationships with brands, buying houses, sourcing offices and key retail customers to generate profitable and sustainable business.
Manage and grow key customer accounts by identifying new business opportunities and expanding existing partnerships.
Independently source and manage profitable domestic and export business with an annual portfolio of approximately Rs. 50–60 Crores.
Drive customer satisfaction, repeat business, and long-term account growth.
Commercial Management
Lead commercial negotiations with customers on pricing, product costing, margins, payment terms, and profitability.
Responsibility for payment terms, credit exposure and commercial risk management.
Ensure commercial viability of all orders while meeting customer expectations.
Monitor order profitability and recommend cost optimization initiatives without compromising quality and delivery.
Merchandising & Order Management
Manage the complete order execution cycle from order confirmation to final shipment.
Coordinate with buyers for order updates, approvals, sampling, production planning, and delivery schedules.
Prepare and monitor Time & Action (T&A) calendars to ensure timely execution.
Ensure customer requirements are effectively communicated and implemented across all internal teams.
Product Development
Coordinate proto, fit, PP, size-set, and shipment sample development.
Work closely with design, sourcing, and product development teams to meet customer expectations.
Ensure timely sample approvals and product commercialization.
Production Planning & Capacity Management
Customer delivery commitments should be finalized in consultation with Central Planning and Manufacturing.
Monitor production status and proactively resolve bottlenecks to achieve on-time delivery.
Ensure smooth coordination across cutting, sewing, finishing, packing, and logistics functions.
Vendor & Supply Chain Management
Coordinate with fabric, trims, and accessory suppliers to ensure timely availability of materials.
Develop strong vendor relationships to improve quality, delivery, and commercial performance.
Monitor material consumption, wastage, and supply risks.
Quality, Delivery & Customer Satisfaction
Ensure products comply with buyer quality standards and compliance requirements.
Coordinate with QA/QC teams to achieve first-pass quality approvals.
Drive continuous improvement in delivery performance and customer satisfaction.
Risk Management
Identify commercial, sourcing, production, and delivery risks at every stage of the order lifecycle.
Develop mitigation plans and coordinate with internal stakeholders to minimize business impact.
Team Leadership
Mentoring and developing the merchandising team.
Allocate responsibilities, review performance, and ensure effective cross-functional collaboration.
Foster a high-performance and customer-centric merchandising team.
· Strong knowledge of garment manufacturing and merchandising.

· Commercial negotiation, costing, margin, and profitability management.
· Production planning, capacity planning, and order execution.
· Vendor management and supply chain coordination.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
· Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/PLM systems.
Qualification
· Bachelor's degree in Fashion Technology, Apparel Merchandising, Apparel Production, Textile Engineering or a related field.
Experience
· 8–12 years of experience in merchandising within the garment manufacturing/export industry.
· Minimum 4–5 years of experience in a leadership role managing key customer accounts, business development, and merchandising operations.
· Strong industry network with brands, buying houses, sourcing offices, and retail customers, with a proven track record of generating profitable business.
· Proven experience in independently handling domestic and international buyers, brands, buying houses, and sourcing offices.
· Strong experience in commercial negotiations, pricing, margin management, capacity planning, and profitability management.
