Staff Specialist (Neurosurgery)

Your new role:

The Staff Specialist (Neurosurgery) is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based specialist neurosurgical services to patients of the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), a tertiary and quaternary referral centre within Metro South Health. The role provides expert clinical care across the continuum of neurosurgical practice, including the assessment, diagnosis, operative management and ongoing care of patients with complex cranial, spinal and peripheral nerve disorders

About you:

This position is intended for a qualified neurosurgeon who is committed to practising comprehensive general neurosurgery, with a strong subspecialty interest in spinal surgery, including the management of traumatic and degenerative spinal conditions.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a proven commitment to ongoing research and academic activities within the Department of Neurosurgery, contributing to clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and the advancement of evidence-based neurosurgical practice.

The successful applicant will also demonstrate a strong commitment to education and teaching, with the ability to effectively supervise, mentor, and support the development of junior medical staff, neurosurgical trainees, and other members of the multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a tertiary health care centre providing care in most major adult specialties. We provide world class health care to Brisbane City's southern suburbs across emergency, medical, mental health and surgical services, including liver and kidney transplant.

We are nationally recognised for our expertise in trauma management and organ transplants and are one of Australia's leading academic and research health centres. The PAH as a major medical research precinct hosts Australia's most advanced medical research facility, the Translational Research Institute (TRI) as well as a new Clinical Research Facility for the discoveries made at TRI to be trialed in a safe clinical environment.

We're expanding our hospital to make sure everyone gets the care they need. We're adding more beds, modernising our buildings, and improving our spaces to treat kidney and cancer patients with all new services and facilities planned to open by 2027.
