Junior School Teacher or Teacher Librarian
About the role
The Junior School Teacher and/or Librarian reports to the Principal through the Head of Junior
School. The Leadership Team supports the Junior School Teacher and/or Teacher/Librarian to
fulfil the responsibilities and accountabilities of the role.
Child Protection legislation requires that, as the preferred applicant of a position classified as

is revealed.
Basic Role Purpose
The Junior School Teacher Librarian will provide efficient and effective library and information
services to meet the needs of the students and staff of the Junior School. They will teach Year
5 and 6 library classes, participate in the differentiated literacy program, implement research
skills development and promote reading and literature in the Junior School.
1.0 Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1.1 Religious Leadership
1.1.1 understanding and actively supporting the Catholic ethos of the College;
1.1.2 providing leadership in the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice, the Touchstones
and core values of the Edmund Rice Charter.
1.2 Leadership of Learning
1.2.1 collaboratively planning library programs for Years 5 and 6 with the Head of
Junior School and the Year 5 and 6 Leaders of Learning, and implementing
these programs;
1.2.2 collaborating with other teachers to ensure the effective integration of library
resources, technologies and collaborative tools into student learning;
1.2.3 planning and implementing programs to encourage reading including, but not
limited to; organizing visiting authors, Book Week activities, Premier’s Reading
Challenge;
1.2.4 participate in the Stage 3 Accelerated Reading program;
1.2.5 selecting, reading and promoting a wide range of literature reflecting the
interests of readers;
1.2.6 demonstrating excellence as a classroom teacher and a high level of
professionalism;
1.2.7 adapting the curriculum to ensure the provision of inclusive education of all
pupils (including students with diverse learning needs);
1.2.8 coordinating and managing appropriate assessment, recording and reporting
procedures;
1.2.9 ensuring regular evaluation and registration of teaching and learning
programs;
1.2.10 providing leadership in the effective and safe use of technology in teaching and
learning.
1.3 Strategic Leadership
1.3.1 working with the Head of Junior School to establish clear goals for the library,
develop strategies for improvement and develop systems to evaluate
strategies;
1.3.2 implementing relevant objectives in the College’s Strategic Improvement Plan;
1.3.3 participating in bi-annual formative reviews through the period of
appointment and participating in a summative performance review in the final
year of appointment;
1.3.4 developing and implementing annual goal statements;
1.3.5 participating in relevant meetings.
1.4 Organisational Leadership
1.4.1 developing and implementing systems for the efficient operation of the library;
1.4.2 creating weekly newsletter items and Woodchatta articles for publication;
1.4.3 writing the annual Collegian report for the Junior School Library;
1.4.4 monitoring the functioning and care of resources, equipment and facilities of
the library;
1.4.5 curating the library’s resources, including the purchasing of new resources and
the archiving of unused materials.
1.4.6 submitting annual budgets in collaboration with the Business Manager;
1.4.7 complying with the College’s Workplace, Health and Safety policies and
procedures;
1.4.8 completing all necessary administrative tasks effectively and efficiently.
1.5 Relational Leadership
1.5.1 promoting the value of pupil self-esteem;
1.5.2 being committed to the education of boys;
1.5.3 creating a welcoming and learner-centred library environment;
1.5.4 promoting an environment in which all pupils are challenged to realise their
full potential;
1.5.5 demonstrating effective interpersonal and communication skills;
1.5.6 seeking opportunities to promote the College in the wider community;
1.5.7 being actively involved in the College’s co-curricular activities.
