Your Opportunity:

The Vice President, Quality and Chief Medical Officer (CMO), a key executive position, provides strong leadership to achieve high-quality patient care and integration and coordination of a complex health delivery system in the province. This executive will lead the Chief Medical Officer portfolio which includes the organization’s medical leadership structure, medical workforce planning and recruitment and medical service delivery including management of the Medical Staff Bylaws; various clinical programs including Infection Prevention & Control; and Quality & Healthcare Improvement team and structure. This position will maintain a strong emphasis on the importance of quality and patient safety, engagement, leadership development, and effective relationships between medical staff and the health care system, academic institutions and other physician-led organizations. Please note that the salary structure for this position is under review and the starting salary will be less than the band maximum. Description:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations of Alberta Health Services, the Vice President, Quality and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key executive leadership position, and is accountable and responsible for all medical staff related matters and decisions, practitioner recruitment, retention, development and wellness provincially; will implement policies established by AHS related to Medical Staff and as stipulated by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and ensuring the provision of high quality and safe patient care. This role ensures the strategic planning and delivery of high quality, safe, patient and family centred care are in full compliance with laws, regulations and relevant professional standards of conduct and policies, while ensuring that all regulatory and related external reporting requirements for services are met; oversees the strategic application of leading practices to achieve clinical quality outcomes and improved performance measures. This position is responsible for approximately a medical staff of approximately 9500 physicians, dentists, oral maxillofacial surgeons and podiatrists and an operational budget of approximately $1.10 billion.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of eligibility for medical licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent professional body. Eligibility to be a member of the AHS Medical Staff. At least eight (8) years’ leadership experience in health care operations including five (5) years’ experience in senior leadership roles in clinical services or healthcare operations and is seen as a provincial and national leader in the development and delivery of clinical quality and medical delivery. Experience leading, supporting and assisting in development of medical leaders and experience leading Quality & Healthcare Improvement programs or initiatives.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful record of achievement as a leader, including extensive experience in physician leadership and development, strategic planning and service delivery in large and diverse organization. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing long term quality services. Track record of fostering partnerships and achieve organizational goals within a large and complex organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

Possesses Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credential.
