Your Opportunity:

The Unit Clerk is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the Outpatient Department. This role serves as the first point of contact for patients, physicians, and healthcare team members, ensuring efficient coordination of patient flow, appointments, and departmental communications. The Unit Clerk contributes to a positive patient experience through professional, courteous, and accurate administrative support in a busy ambulatory setting.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Unit Clerk, Medical Office Assistant, or related administrative program required. Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize workload and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and customer service. Accurate keyboarding and data entry skills. Able to withstand the physical demands of the job including frequent sitting, standing and walking. Regular use of computers and office equipment requiring repetitive hand, wrist and finger movements. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of office supplies, and equipment up to 10 - 15 kg.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous healthcare clerical experience preferred. Experience in an ambulatory care or outpatient setting. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to adapt to multiple disruptions, and changing priorities of the department.
