About the Branch/Group

The Consumer Affairs and Local Government (CALG) group improves how customers and businesses engage with government through strategy, policy, regulatory design, and service delivery. Within CALG, the Portfolio Strategy, Planning and Performance Division provides strategic direction, delivers priority projects, and uses data, evaluation, and governance to improve outcomes across the portfolio. The Regulator Innovation Branch leads the design and implementation of new and reformed regulatory functions, working across government and with stakeholders to develop effective, practical, and sustainable regulatory frameworks.

About the Role

As a Senior Policy and Project Officer, you will lead the development of regulatory strategy and the design of new and reformed regulatory functions, providing expert policy advice to inform regulatory frameworks, legislation, and government decision-making. You will independently manage complex policy and project workstreams, translating policy intent into practical, evidence-based regulatory models while navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, and cross-government interdependencies.

Working collaboratively across government, you will build strong stakeholder relationships, lead consultation, and prepare high-quality briefings, Cabinet submissions, and strategic advice. You will identify emerging issues, support the delivery of practical reform solutions, and contribute to a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and excellence in regulatory design and project delivery.

Negotiates with stakeholders, peers, industry bodies and other government agencies with the objective of gaining co-operation, influencing views and meeting timelines for deliver

Desirable Experience

Experience in regulatory or compliance environments.

Ability to interpret legislation, regulations, or policy and translate them into practical guidance, education, or training materials.

Experience creating user-focused resources such as fact sheets, training, and communications that improve understanding and compliance.

Knowledge of digital or service design principles, with a focus on accessibility, usability, and user needs.

Ability to simplify complex requirements into practical, easy-to-use tools and resources for end users.
