Stratum Systems is a well-established, mid-sized Managed Service Provider (MSP) based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Since 2007 we have delivered managed IT services, hardware solutions, cybersecurity, and proactive support to hundreds of businesses across the Lower Mainland. We are rapidly growing through new service offerings, hardware sales, and cybersecurity and are looking for an experience Senior IT Technician to join our team.
This is a hands-on role in a dynamic MSP setting with on-site/in office work.
Position Summary
The Senior Systems Engineer acts as a technical lead, responsible for advanced troubleshooting, infrastructure design, and strategic IT guidance. This role supports complex environments and ensures that client systems are secure, scalable and aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Manage assigned tickets according to priority, client impact, SLA commitments, and ticket age
Own escalated technical issues from initial investigation through resolution and client confirmation
Design, implement, and maintain IT infrastructure solutions
Troubleshoot complex server, cloud, network, endpoint, application, and security-related incidents
Lead and deliver infrastructure projects involving:
Server deployments and migrations
Cloud solutions and hybrid environments
Network architecture and security improvements
Oversee cybersecurity practices and compliance alignment
Coordinate with vendors and third-party providers when external escalation is required
Manage backups, disaster recovery strategies, and business continuity
Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to other members of the technical team
Work directly with clients to advise on IT strategy and lifecycle planning
Evaluate and deploy new technologies and tools
Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation as scheduled
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the direct manager to support departmental and organizational needs.
Requirements
5+ years of progressive IT infrastructure and technical support experience, including demonstrated responsibility for Tier 2/3 escalations, project delivery, and client-facing technical work
Experience with the billable hours model.
Familiarity with ticketing systems for workorder management and documentation
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Enterprise and Desktop Technologies, networking concepts and security best practices.
Proven troubleshooting, problem solving and customer-service skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Deep personal interest in technology and pride in quality work
Advanced expertise in: Networking (routing, VLANs, firewalls) , Virtualization platforms, Microsoft ecosystem (Windows Server, Azure, M365), Security best practices and frameworks, PowerShell scripting and automation
Strong project management and documentation skills
Excellent communication and client-facing abilities
Valid BC Driver’s License and ability to access equipment in varied locations.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with backup strategies, Linux (Debian), VOIP, or cybersecurity tools.
Relevant certifications (CompTIA A+/Network+, Microsoft, Cisco CCNA).
Experience in MSP or consulting environment
Success Metrics
Resolution quality and timeliness for Tier 2 and Tier 3 escalations.
SLA compliance and management of ticket backlog and ticket age.
Reduction in recurring incidents through root-cause analysis, documentation, and preventive improvements.
Accuracy and completeness of ticket notes and technical documentation.
Successful project delivery against scope, schedule, budget, and technical requirements.
Client communication quality and satisfaction.
Infrastructure reliability, security, recoverability, and lifecycle health.
Effectiveness of mentoring and knowledge transfer to other technicians.
Appropriate utilization and accurate time entry.
Compliance with change-management and security procedures.
