About the role

About the role:

To manage Signalling design and construction activities for allocated projects.

We are seeking a motivated Signalling Engineer to join our team as Project Engineer [Signalling], supporting the delivery of key railway projects primarily across the North-West Route.

Many of these projects form part of our Manchester North Transformation Portfolio (MNTP). Delivered by Network Rail Capital Delivery, these project deliver significant benefits to the North West and specifically the Manchester area and include major enhancements project at Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Airport and Manchester Picadilly . This portfolio includes multi-disciplinary projects of varying scale, complexity and maturity across different PACE stages.

Alongside the core responsibilities of the Project Engineer [Signalling] role, you will also have opportunities to broaden your experience by undertaking the Designated Project Engineer (DPE) role where appropriate

Package : This role sits within Band 4C, salary range £ 43,588 - £53,167 Depending on experience.

Location : The successful candidate will be based in Manchester Square One.

Your experience and skills

What you'll be doing :

You'll ensure all engineering and project activities are delivered safely on time and within budget, while meeting Network Rail standards, legislation and environmental expectations. The role involves managing design and construction from specification through to testing and commissioning, overseeing contractors and consultants, and making sure everyone involved is competent and working to the right standards. You'll apply effective risk and HAZOP assessments, monitor quality and compliance through reviews and audits, and provide practical project management guidance across site activities. Acting as Designated Project Engineer where required, you'll also build strong relationships with stakeholders and regulators, while sharing best practice to continuously improve delivery across projects.

The role requires the successful applicant to work from the office a minimum of three days a week (ideally Tuesday to Thursday) to maximise the time the team is together in the office and the associated benefits.

What you'll have:

Relevant experience in signalling engineering, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi discipline areas

Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level in signalling engineering

Knowledge of quality assurance

An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work

CDM, risk assessment, engineering management competency

We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:

Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level

Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects

An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works

Six Sigma Yellow Belt

Project safety management experience

Yellow book course
