Title: Tax Manager
Location: Raleigh, NC
About role:
As a Tax Manager, you'll manage a portfolio of clients while serving as a leader within our tax department.
You'll work closely with business owners, executives, individuals, trusts and estates, and nonprofit organizations to help them understand the tax implications of their decisions and identify planning opportunities throughout the year.
Success in this role isn't measured solely by the number of tax returns completed. It's measured by the trust you build with clients, the development of your team, and the quality of advice you provide.
Responsibilities:
Manage tax engagements from planning through completion.
Review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, estates, and tax-exempt organizations.
Develop proactive tax planning strategies that help clients minimize tax and achieve their long-term objectives.
Build deep relationships with clients by understanding their businesses, families, and financial goals.
Serve as a trusted advisor throughout the year, not just during tax season.
Research complex tax issues and communicate practical solutions.
Respond to IRS and state tax notices and assist clients during examinations.
Delegate work effectively while coaching and mentoring staff accountants and senior associates.
Review workpapers and provide meaningful feedback that develops technical and professional skills.
Assist with workflow management, scheduling, and departmental planning.
Help improve firm processes through technology, automation, and AI.
Stay current on changes in tax law and emerging technologies affecting the profession.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Active CPA license or we are also open to strong CPA candidates who are actively working toward licensure
Five or more years of recent public accounting tax experience
0 3 years of client management/engagement management experience.
Local to Raleigh or already planning to relocate from within about 50 100 miles.
Willing to work 100% in-office.
Experience reviewing complex individual and business income tax returns
Strong technical research and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven leadership and mentoring abilities
Strong organizational and project management skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation
Experience with CCH Axcess Tax
Experience with CCH Engagement
Experience with QuickBooks
Experience preparing returns for nonprofit organizations

Compensation
This Finance role pays $105k-$140k/yr. Within typical range for finance roles in United States.
