Test Engineer PCS
About the role
Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Test Planning & Execution
Independently plan, develop, and execute test programs for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation testing, component validation, and full prototype system testing of grid-scale inverters, battery energy storage systems, and similar power conversion equipment
Define test objectives, acceptance criteria, and test sequences aligned with product requirements and applicable standards
Set up and configure HIL simulation environments; interface with real-time simulation platforms (e.g., RTDS, OPAL-RT, Typhoon HIL) to model grid and system behavior
Conduct electrical, mechanical, and functional testing of power conversion hardware including inverters, converters, and battery management systems
Operate high-power test equipment including power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, and grid simulators
Execute testing from bench-level component validation through full system integration and prototype testing
Ensure all test activities comply with applicable safety standards, internal procedures, and regulatory requirements
Analysis & Reporting
Analyze test data to assess product performance against design requirements and specifications; identify anomalies, failure modes, and root causes
Apply engineering judgment to interpret results and make recommendations with minimal supervision
Prepare clear, thorough test reports, data summaries, and technical documentation for use by design engineers, program managers, and customers
Maintain accurate test records, calibration logs, and equipment maintenance documentation
Contribute to design reviews by presenting test findings and supporting data-driven engineering decisions
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Engagement
Work closely with design engineers, systems engineers, and manufacturing teams to align test activities with product development milestones
Collaborate with controls and software teams to validate control algorithms and protection schemes within HIL environments
Participate on cross-functional horizontal teams; accountable for the quality and timeliness of your own deliverables
Communicate test status, risks, and issues proactively to program leadership and stakeholders
Support customer-witnessed testing and factory acceptance testing (FAT) activities as required
Problem Solving & Engineering Judgment
Independently diagnose and resolve test-related technical issues; apply systematic troubleshooting methods to hardware and simulation problems
Identify test infrastructure gaps and propose improvements to test rigs, tooling, and processes
Apply knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles to evaluate test results within the broader product context
Contribute to risk identification and mitigation planning for test programs
Continuous Improvement & Process Development
Develop and refine test procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures to improve repeatability and efficiency
Identify opportunities to automate test processes and data collection; implement improvements with appropriate oversight
Actively seek and implement feedback from mentors and senior engineers to accelerate technical development
Support the adoption of new test methodologies, tools, and technologies within the team
Be an active contributor to a lean and continuous improvement culture within the test organization
Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing
Share technical learnings and test insights with peers and junior team members
Begin developing expertise in a specific domain (e.g., power electronics testing, battery system validation, HIL simulation) and serve as a growing resource for that area within the team
Seek mentorship from Lead and Senior Engineers; implement feedback and apply it to improve performance and output quality
