Join the Future of Commerce with Whatnot!

Whatnot is the largest live shopping platform in North America and Europe to buy, sell, and discover the things you love. Role

We’re looking for a Product Designer to join our Payments team - someone who’s passionate about designing seamless, trustworthy money experiences for live commerce at massive scale. In this role, you’ll shape the checkout, payout, wallet, and incentive experiences that power every dollar moving through Whatnot, from the moment a buyer wins or buys in a live show to the moment a seller understands, receives, and manages their earnings.

You’ll partner closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and finance, compliance, and risk partners to build experiences that balance speed, trust, and operational correctness. This could include designing one-tap and multi-step payment flows, seller-facing pending payment and payout experiences, wallet and stored-value systems, or recovery paths for failed payments, disputes, and chargebacks.

What you’ll do:

Design payment and value experiences across checkout, payouts, wallet, refunds, credits, coupons, gift cards, and emerging balance products on web and mobile.

Translate payment infrastructure, compliance, tax, and financial integrity requirements into intuitive product experiences.

Design both happy paths and recovery flows: failed payments, pending states, payment method switching, seller visibility, and resolution.

Create wireframes, prototypes, and polished product experiences for ambiguous, high-stakes money movement problems.

Help unify fragmented payment experiences across live, marketplace, tips, offers, and other purchase surfaces.

Use data, research, and experimentation to improve conversion, reduce payment friction, and increase buyer and seller confidence.

Contribute to the design system while advocating for accessibility, inclusivity, and scalable global patterns.

Design for live shopping constraints, where speed, clarity, and trust matter across auctions, flash sales, subscriptions, and other high-throughput moments.

You'll report to a Design leader and will have the option to either work from one of our office hubs (LA, SF, NYC, or Seattle) or remote (U.S. only).

Strong interaction and systems thinking - you can untangle complex flows and design for edge cases

Expertise in design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Protopie, Framer, etc.).

Deep understanding of user experience design principles and methodologies, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Proven experience designing zero-to-one products or new platforms, demonstrating your ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and define new product spaces.

Experience in e-commerce, marketplace platforms, or supply chain management is a plus.
