About the role

Overview:

BigBear.ai is standing up a small, elite development team to deliver cloud-native applications that directly support mission operations. This is a focused, high-impact environment where your work is highly visible and directly influences outcomes. I’m looking for a Full Stack Developer with deep Python expertise and strong frontend craftsmanship who thrives in classified environments and brings a disciplined engineering mindset to building secure, maintainable systems under real operational pressure.

What We’re Looking For

Backend (Python): Strong Python development experience with Django (or equivalent), modern API design, Pydantic-style validation, and async Python in production

Frontend (React/Next.js): Ability to deliver polished, responsive production UIs with thoughtful component design, effective state management, and strong UX attention

Databases (PostgreSQL): Schema design, query optimization, migrations, and data loading/transformation (Aurora experience is a plus)

Identity & Access: Hands-on integration of Keycloak and standards such as OIDC, SAML, JWT sessions, and CAC/PIV; strong understanding of RBAC and secure auth flows

Cloud (AWS): Practical experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting cloud-native apps across classified partitions; familiarity with EKS, Aurora, S3, IAM, VPC, KMS

Infrastructure-as-Code: Comfort writing and maintaining Terraform modules

Secure Engineering: Experience building software for STIG-hardened, FIPS-validated environments; strong grasp of least privilege, secrets management, and secure SDLC practices

DevSecOps: Ability to interpret and remediate scan findings (SAST, DAST, SCA, container scanning, SBOM verification)

AI-Assisted Development: Regular use of AI-enabled tools in daily engineering work, with an understanding of strengths/limitations

What you will do:

You will design, build, and deliver end-to-end applications - from database schema and data migrations to API layers and the user experience mission users rely on daily. You’ll support an established platform while also delivering pilot solutions and MVPs for emerging requirements.

In a typical week, you may:

Extend a Django-based API gateway and services using modern API patterns (including Backend-for-Frontend)

Build and refine React/Next.js interfaces and dashboards for operational workflows

Design PostgreSQL schemas, tune queries, and develop migrations to modernize legacy data

Integrate authentication/authorization using Keycloak (OIDC/SAML), including RBAC and secure session/token handling

Deploy and operate applications across multiple AWS partitions and classification levels

Contribute to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD (GitLab) in a DevSecOps pipeline

Use AI-assisted development tooling as a standard part of your day-to-day workflow to improve velocity and quality

What you need to have:

Must have an active TS/SCI clearance

5+ years of hands-on software development (or equivalent demonstrated capability)

Python backend development (Django, FastAPI, or similar; async/ASGI; modern Python)

Frontend development with React, Next.js, or equivalent (production systems - not prototypes)

PostgreSQL schema design, optimization, migrations, and data loading

AWS experience delivering and operating applications (including classified partitions/regions)

Terraform (IaC)

Keycloak and/or OIDC/SAML/CAC-PIV authentication integrations

Secure development in STIG-hardened, FIPS-validated environments

GitLab CI/CD and Git-based workflows

DevSecOps scan remediation (SAST/DAST/SCA/SBOM/container scanning)

Daily use of AI-assisted development tools

What we'd like you to have:

Building GenAI features into applications (RAG, LLM integration, embeddings/search)

Legacy system/data migration into modern cloud-native architectures

Kubernetes/EKS and Helm

Hardened container supply chains and FIPS-validated image pipelines

Practical application of NIST 800-53 controls to software design

Multi-classification / cross-partition deployment architectures

Experience supporting IC or DoD mission systems
