Role responsibilities

Lead the delivery of high-quality digital solutions by guiding development activity, mentoring colleagues and strengthening team capability to achieve successful outcomes

Take ownership of technical incidents, support issues and defect resolution to ensure reliable services and minimise disruption for users

Deliver development artefacts aligned to product requirements, enabling the creation of scalable and effective digital products that meet business needs

Champion engineering best practice by leading initiatives that enhance ways of working and contribute to a growing community of practice across the organisation

Influence wider engineering strategy by sharing technical insight and identifying opportunities to improve development standards and delivery capability

Foster a culture of continuous improvement by promoting agile ways of working, collaboration and ongoing professional development across the team

Play a key role in shaping the future of digital delivery, contributing to high-profile projects that support organisational objectives and improve outcomes for consumers

Build technical and regulatory expertise while benefiting from flexible working, a supportive environment and an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives and innovation

Skills required

Minimum:

Experience as a Senior Developer including a solid understanding of software engineering principles and their application.

Experience of Cloud Native development; ideally on AWS

High level of experience in either Java/C# and React/Angular

Essential:

Degree-level qualification in Computing, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience gained within software engineering environments

Strong understanding of development automation, using tools and practices that improve efficiency, quality and software delivery outcomes

Effective communication skills with the ability to engage confidently within multidisciplinary teams and with a broad range of stakeholders

Proven ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and analysts to deliver high-quality solutions aligned to user and business needs

Commitment to software engineering best practice, producing high-quality code that is coherent, loosely coupled, maintainable, well-documented and fully testable

Ability to evaluate, select and apply innovative development approaches, adapting practices and frameworks to meet technical and delivery requirements

Experience working within agile environments, alongside Solution and Technical Architects, with an understanding of system architecture, implementation trade-offs and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery practices
