Senior Data Scientist – Search & Recommendations

Overview of the role:

As a Senior Data Scientist – Search & Recommendations at Flutter Brazil, you will build and scale machine learning solutions that power personalization, recommendation, search, and product discovery across our platforms.

You will work on high-impact problems such as recommendation systems, search optimization, customer segmentation, cross-sell, upsell, and behavioral modeling. This role requires strong end-to-end ownership, from problem definition and data exploration to model deployment, monitoring, and business impact measurement.

Working closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, Analysts, and business stakeholders, you will help shape the next generation of data-driven experiences while driving measurable customer and commercial outcomes.

What you’ll do:

Lead end-to-end machine learning initiatives, from discovery and experimentation to deployment and monitoring.

Design, build, and improve recommendation, personalization, ranking, and search models.

Develop predictive models that support customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and monetization strategies.

Partner closely with Software Engineers to productionize and scale machine learning solutions.

Build robust data pipelines and feature engineering processes to support model performance and reliability.

Design and analyze experiments, including A/B tests, to evaluate product and model performance.

Monitor model performance, detect drift, and continuously improve production systems.

Translate complex analytical findings into actionable business recommendations.

Mentor other data scientists and contribute to the evolution of data science best practices within the organization.

Stay up to date with advances in machine learning, recommendation systems, search technologies, and MLOps practices.

You combine strong machine learning expertise with a product mindset and the ability to deliver production-ready solutions. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, collaborating across disciplines, and owning projects from ideation to measurable business impact.

We require a candidate who has achieved or is capable of the following:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or related disciplines.

3+ years of experience delivering machine learning solutions end-to-end, including deployment and monitoring in production environments.

Strong proficiency in Python and modern machine learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.

Experience working on recommendation systems, personalization, search, ranking, customer segmentation, or related product-facing machine learning problems.

Strong foundation in statistics, experimentation, hypothesis testing, A/B testing, and causal inference.

Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large-scale datasets.

Experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Spark or Databricks.

Experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and MLOps practices.

Strong software engineering mindset, including version control, testing, and maintainable code development.

Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strong English communication skills and fluency in Portuguese.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.

Nice to have:

Experience applying machine learning within sports betting, gaming, iGaming, or other real-time recommendation and personalization environments.
