Position Description Project Manager – Engineering & Capital Projects

Employment Type: Contract

Initial Engagement: The position will commence on a month-to-month contract to support immediate operational and project requirements.

Future Employment: Subject to business growth, organisational requirements and satisfactory performance, the engagement is intended to transition to a fixed-term contract under mutually agreed terms.

Location: Melbourne, Victoria, with travel to client sites and health facilities as required.

Hours of Work: Part-time or full-time by agreement, with flexibility to meet operational and project requirements.

Position Purpose

The Project Manager – Engineering & Capital Projects is responsible for coordinating and delivering engineering contracts, facilities projects and capital works activities across a portfolio of health facilities and infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Project Director, the role manages day-to-day project delivery, procurement, contract administration, stakeholder coordination, risk management and reporting to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with client and organisational governance requirements.

The position supports engineering contract implementation, commissioning, operational readiness and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining strong working relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Delivery

Coordinate the planning, delivery and close-out of engineering and capital works projects.

Monitor project schedules, budgets, deliverables and milestones.

Coordinate consultants, contractors and client stakeholders.

Support commissioning, defects management and operational handover activities.

Monitor project performance and recommend corrective actions where required.

Engineering Contract Management

Develop engineering maintenance contracts, technical specifications and scopes of work.

Support procurement activities, including tender preparation, evaluation and contract award recommendations.

Administer engineering service contracts and monitor contractor performance.

Ensure contract documentation remains current, compliant and accurately maintained.

Assist in resolving contractual and operational issues throughout project delivery.

Governance and Reporting

Prepare project reports, meeting minutes, action registers and governance documentation.

Support project governance processes, including change control and document management.

Maintain project risk and issue registers.

Escalate significant commercial, technical or delivery issues to the Project Director.

Assist in preparing Steering Committee papers and executive reports.

Operational Readiness and Transition

Coordinate engineering activities supporting commissioning and operational readiness.

Assist with occupancy planning and facility handover.

Monitor defects liability activities and contractor rectification works.

Support transition from construction into operational service.

Risk, Compliance and Continuous Improvement

Monitor compliance with project procedures, engineering standards and contractual obligations.

Support audit actions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Identify opportunities to improve engineering, procurement and project management processes.

Assist in implementing lessons learned across projects.

Stakeholder Engagement

Develop productive working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and operational stakeholders.

Coordinate project meetings and workshops.

Communicate project progress clearly and professionally.

Support collaborative decision-making across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Selection CriteriaEssential

Degree qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.

Demonstrated experience delivering engineering, infrastructure or capital works projects.

Experience administering engineering service contracts and procurement activities.

Knowledge of project governance, contract administration and risk management.

Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to build productive stakeholder relationships.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.

Desirable

Experience working within healthcare, government or other critical infrastructure environments.

Knowledge of engineering maintenance, commissioning and operational readiness.

Experience supporting capital works delivery within live operational facilities.

Project Management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent).

Chartered Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent professional accreditation.

Pay: $92,103.93 – $186,051.70 per year
