About Us

At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers. About the Role

The Junior Engineer role sits within the Core Platform team, where you will contribute to the engineering foundations that power payments and platform capabilities across ANZ. Working within structured delivery cycles, you will rotate across feature work, small improvements, and production support - building the broad experience needed to grow into a well-rounded cloud engineer.

Banking is changing and we're changing with it, giving our people great opportunities to try new things, learn and grow. Whatever your role at ANZ, you'll be building your future, while helping to build ours.

Role Type: Permanent

Role Location: Melbourne or Brisbane

Work Hours: Full time

What will your day look like?

As a Cloud Engineer, you will work closely with senior engineers, with clear mentorship and escalation paths at every stage. The work you contribute to underpins critical payment flows relied upon by engineers and customers across ANZ, and you will be expected to take ownership of your tasks, document your decisions, and communicate clearly.

We build on GCP, manage infrastructure with Terraform, and automate delivery through GitHub Actions. Experience with other cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is equally welcomed. Familiarity with Go or Python is a bonus.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of cloud-based platform capabilities that support ANZ's critical payments ecosystem.

Collaborate with senior engineers to deliver feature enhancements, platform improvements, and production support activities within structured delivery cycles.

Build and manage infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform and support cloud environments across GCP (and other cloud platforms where applicable).

Develop, test, and automate deployment pipelines using modern engineering tools such as GitHub Actions.

Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring platform reliability, stability, and performance.

Document technical solutions, decisions, and operational processes to support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Partner with engineers and stakeholders across the business to deliver secure, scalable, and customer-focused technology solutions.

Continuously learn and develop cloud engineering skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to enterprise-scale platforms and payment systems.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

2+ years' experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, platform engineering, or a related technology role.

A proactive, self-starter mindset with a strong desire to learn, take ownership, and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Hands-on experience working with cloud technologies such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, with an interest in building scalable and reliable platforms.

Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform) and an understanding of modern DevOps and automation practices.

Experience developing or supporting applications using languages such as Go, Python, Java, or similar.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.

A collaborative approach, with the confidence to ask questions, seek feedback, and work closely with team members to achieve shared goals.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly document technical decisions and explain technical concepts to others.

A growth mindset and genuine curiosity for emerging technologies, cloud platforms, and engineering best practices.

Resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone to contribute to new initiatives and continuous improvement activities.

You’re not expected to have 100% of these skills. At ANZ a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we’d love to hear from you. Job Posting End Date
