Why does the job exist?

This purpose of this position is to support the Resource Management Program's ability to effectively manage and utilize public funds in furtherance of the New Mexico Environment Department's mission. Through financial stewardship and fiscal accountability, this position helps ensure that program resources are aligned with organizational priorities and available to support activities that protect New Mexico's environment and natural resources.

How does it get done?

Reviews and assists with the development and management of budgets for the Resource Management Program

Prepares journal entries and supports general ledger review and reconciliation activities

Creates internal purchase requisition forms and enters purchase orders in SHARE

Assists with voucher processing and other financial transactions

Maintains budget projection workbooks to track expenditures, budget activity, and personnel actions

Collaborate with the Program Financial Manager to facilitate P-code meetings and budget planning efforts

Coordinates with program offices to identify, document, and address financial and operational needs

Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in accounting, economics, finance, or business administration and three (3) years of experience in accounting, finance, economics, and/or statistical analysis. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver¿s license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required.
