Job Description
Base:
Location base will be Edmonton, London E4 8JG, however some flexibility may be required to perform your duties from another site, or other premises owned, operated or designated by Acciona Branch, as reasonably necessary from time to time, to support NLHPP.
Role and Mission:
The Senior QC Engineer – Mechanical Erection is responsible for assuring quality compliance during the erection, installation, inspection, and testing of boiler pressure parts, particularly water wall panels, economizers, headers, and associated piping systems.
The role ensures all construction activities are executed in full compliance with project specifications, applicable international standards, approved procedures, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
Main responsibilities:
Quality Control & Inspection
Lead and perform QC inspections for mechanical erection activities related to:
Water wall panels
Boiler pressure parts
Headers, drums, and manifolds
Structural supports and attachments
Verify erection activities comply with:
Approved IFC drawings
Method statements
Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
Witness and record:
Fit-up inspections
Dimensional checks and alignment
Torqueing and bolting activities
Welding activities and heat treatment (PWHT where applicable)
Conduct material receiving inspections (MRI) and verification of vendor documentation.
Welding & NDT Control
Ensure compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
Verify welder and welding operator qualifications.
Coordinate and verify Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities:
VT, PT, MT, UT, RT as applicable
Review and approve NDT reports and welding records.
Documentation & Quality Records
Maintain complete, accurate, and traceable QC documentation, including:
Inspection reports
Material certificates (EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2)
Welding maps and logs
NDT and test reports
Manage and close RFIs (Requests for Inspection).
Raise, manage, and follow up Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective actions.
Testing & Commissioning Support
Witness and verify:
Hydrostatic pressure testing
Leak tests
Flushing, blowing, and pre-commissioning activities
Ensure test results meet acceptance criteria and regulatory requirements.
Coordination & Supervision
Supervise subcontractors’ quality activities and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
Support QA/QC Manager during audits, inspections, and client/third-party surveillance.
Promote a strong quality and safety culture on site.
Required Skills and Competencies
Role Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 5–8 years of experience in QC/QA roles for mechanical erection in:
Power generation
Boilers, HRSGs, or industrial plants
Proven experience with boiler pressure parts erection and water wall panels.
Strong knowledge of welding, NDT, and pressure testing.
Certification in ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (preferred).
CSWIP / BGAS or similar inspection certifications (advantageous).
Strong working knowledge to standards and codes:
BS / EN / European Standards
EN 12952 – Water-tube boilers and auxiliary installations
EN 13445 – Unfired pressure vessels
EN ISO 15614 – Welding procedure qualification
EN ISO 9606 – Welder qualification
ISO Standards
ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems
ISO 3834 – Quality requirements for fusion welding
NDT Standards
ISO 9712
ASNT SNT-TC-1A (where specified in project requirements)
Applicable UK regulations and statutory requirements
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of international codes and standards.
Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently on site in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills with subcontractors, clients, and third parties.
High attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
Proficient in MS Office and QA/QC documentation systems.
