The Role
The Manager, New Initiatives will develop JoVE's next big bets building entirely new revenue streams from the ground up. This is not a conventional product role; it's an Entrepreneur in Residence mandate. You'll operate like a think tank to come up with ideas worth exploring and scale and then operate like founder inside JoVE to take the business idea from zero to one: defining the offer, running the go-to-market motion, finding first customers, and proving the model works before it's ever handed to a larger team. Product thinking is one skill you'll need . Equally critical are commercial instinct, go-to-market execution, and a hands-on, get-it-done mentality.
Responsibilities:
Identify and evaluate net-new business opportunities and revenue streams for JoVE,
Build new business lines from zero to one - defining the offer, testing it in market, and proving commercial viability
Own go-to-market execution end to end: pricing, positioning, outbound, partnerships, and early sales
Run scrappy, fast market validation customer conversations, pilots, and tests to kill weak ideas quickly and double down on strong signal
Evaluate opportunities against JoVE's strategic growth objectives and make the call on which bets to pursue
Define project scope, milestones, and timelines for each new initiative, and drive execution personally
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to refine, prioritize, and resource new initiatives
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Science
5+ years of experience in business, customer-facing, consulting, or early-stage startup roles
Ex- startup founder experience is very useful
A founder mentality energized by ambiguity and ownership rather than a pre-defined roadmap
Strong commercial and go-to-market instincts, understanding how new businesses are built and sold, not just how products are built
Ability to think strategically about business direction while personally executing the tactical first steps
Hustler who is driven to get things done, with the potential to shape entirely new directions for the business
Experience in new business development, market research, consulting, or early-stage startups preferred
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to sell ideas internally to leadership and externally to customers and partner
