About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Manulife's High Net Worth (HNW) Underwriting team, supporting complex and sophisticated insurance cases for affluent clients. As Director, GHNW Underwriting, you will play a critical role in balancing risk management, customer experience, and business growth by making sound underwriting decisions across medical, financial, compliance, and regulatory assessments. You will collaborate closely with distribution partners, reinsurers, and underwriting colleagues to deliver competitive and customer-focused outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise in the HNW market, influence underwriting excellence, and contribute to the continued growth of a specialized and high-impact business.

Position Responsibilities:

Manage complex underwriting assessments across medical, financial, compliance, and regulatory areas within delegated authority levels and service standards.

E valuate, select, and classify risks in accordance with company underwriting philosophy, guidelines, and risk management frameworks.

Partner with distribution teams, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality underwriting solutions and exceptional service to customers.

Provide technical expertise, guidance, and ongoing development support to junior underwriters and underwriting colleagues.

D rive underwriting consistency and competitive decision-making while maintaining portfolio quality and mortality objectives.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 8–10 years of life insurance underwriting experience, preferably involving complex or high-value cases.

Strong experience assessing medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting risks and applying underwriting guidelines in a regulated insurance environment.

D emonstrated ability to evaluate complex cases independently, conduct research, solve problems, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders.

Strong knowledge of reinsurance principles, underwriting practices, and insurance contract fundamentals.

B achelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience underwriting High Net Worth (HNW) or affluent customer portfolios.

ACS designation or other relevant insurance industry certifications.

Strong understanding of reinsurance markets, treaty arrangements, and underwriting strategy.

Excellent analytical, communication, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
