About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Balancing Engineer to join our mechanical commissioning team, working on commercial, institutional, and industrial building services projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of air and water systems to ensure designed performance is achieved and documented in line with project specifications and industry standards (e.g. CIBSE Commissioning Codes, BSRIA guides).
Key Responsibilities
Carry out air balancing on ventilation systems including AHUs, ductwork, VAV/CAV terminals, and diffusers/grilles
Balance hydronic systems (CHW, LPHW) including chilled beams, fan coil units, AHU coils, and terminal units
Set and verify PICVs, DPCVs, and other regulating valves (e.g. FlowCon Green, Belimo, TA) to design flow rates
Conduct fault-finding and diagnostics on systems with flow, pressure, or performance issues
Record and report traverse velocity readings, flow rates, and pressure test data accurately
Analyse fan and pump performance curves against design duty points
Prepare clear, professional commissioning reports and as-commissioned data sheets for clients and consultants
Liaise with M&E contractors, consultants, and clients on-site to resolve technical issues
Ensure all works are carried out in compliance with health & safety regulations and company procedures
Maintain accurate records of commissioning data, asset tagging, and equipment schedules
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in air and water balancing within commercial/institutional building services
Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronic distribution, and ventilation principles
Proficient with commissioning instrumentation (flow hoods, manometers, ultrasonic flow meters, thermal anemometers)
Ability to read and interpret M&E drawings, schematics, and specifications
Strong report writing and data recording skills (Excel/Word)
Full clean driving licence.
Safe Pass card & Manual handling
BSRIA/CIBSE commissioning qualifications desirable but not essential
