About the role

If you live in Australia or New Zealand, you’ve likely heard of AMP. But at a time when society is changing, we are too. We’re now a nimbler business with new leadership and thinking.

For us, these are exciting times. There’s a real potential for big thinkers to help us redefine what financial services could be. And turn our legacy into something even more positive and powerful for the future.

Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours

We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we’ve been doing it for over 170 years.

If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.

This role owns tax effect accounting and financial statement integration for the AMP Group. Additionally, it ensures accurate tax provisions, deferred tax recognition and recoverability assessments and disclosures in line with AASB 112 Income Taxes , supporting reliable external reporting to the ASX, regulators, Audit Committee and informing strategic decision-making across the Group.

Given the materiality of AMP's deferred tax position and the prominence of tax effect accounting in audit and ASIC focus areas, the role is a critical line of defence in the Group's financial reporting framework.

How are you going to make an impact

Lead tax effect accounting and reporting activities, including current and deferred tax calculations, DTA/DTL recognition, recoverability assessments, temporary difference analysis, tax provisions, effective tax rate reconciliations and tax disclosures in accordance with AASB 112, AASB 101 and AASB 134.

Support the Group's financial reporting and close processes, partnering with Statutory Reporting and Group Finance teams to deliver accurate quarterly and annual reporting, financial statement analysis, variance explanations, and Audit Committee reporting.

Provide tax advisory and modelling support on business transactions, investments, restructures and emerging regulatory developments, assessing potential financial and tax impacts across the Group.

Manage relationships with auditors and advisors, preparing audit-ready workpapers, responding to audit queries and supporting the Head of Tax on key stakeholder engagements.

Drive continuous improvement in tax processes and governance, leveraging technology, automation and AI-enabled analytics to enhance efficiency, insight and reporting quality .

What you will bring to the role

Technical Tax & Financial Reporting Expertise

Ideally at least 6-8+ years' post-qualification corporate tax experience, including within a Big 4 firm and/or an APRA-regulated or ASX-listed organisation.

Extensive experience in tax effect accounting, tax provisioning, deferred tax accounting and financial statement analysis.

Excellent technical expertise in AASB 112 Income Taxes, Australian income tax law and financial reporting requirements, with experience supporting ASX-listed reporting obligations and external audits.

Outstanding financial accounting, analytical and quantitative skills, including reconciliations, modelling, deferred tax asset recoverability assessments and complex tax reporting.

Demonstrated experience with, or strong interest in, leveraging AI, automation and data analytics to enhance tax provisioning, financial analysis and reporting processes

Exceptional English language communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to produce clear, professional documentation and present complex accounting and tax matters effectively to diverse audiences.

Qualifications & Professional Credentials

Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Commerce or a related discipline.

CA or CPA qualification essential.

Additional qualifications in STEM, Quantitative Finance, Actuarial Studies, Business Analytics or Data Science highly regarded.

Your experience with financial and tax technology platforms such as CCH Tax Centre, Thomson Reuters OneSource or similar solutions, together with Power BI for data visualisation, analytics and reporting, would be well regarded. A Tax Institute Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification would also be well regarded, although not essential.

Who you are

You are a technically strong tax accounting professional with extensive experience in tax effect accounting, financial reporting and corporate tax within a complex, regulated environment. You bring sound financial reporting judgement, exceptional analytical capability and a commitment to delivering accurate, audit-ready work.

You build trusted relationships across Finance, Audit and external advisers, communicate complex tax and accounting matters clearly and thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and reporting deadlines.
