THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON BID AWARD
The Mechanical Engineer shall provide advanced mechanical engineering support for HVAC, plumbing, and infrastructure systems supporting Uniformed Services University Health Services campus.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical consultation and support for large mechanical infrastructure repair and modernization projects
Coordinate and technical oversight of mechanical construction, maintenance, repair, and modernization projects at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS)
Develop Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Statement of Work (SOW) documents and prepare current working estimates
Support the planning, design review, scheduling, coordination, execution, and commissioning of projects involving facility mechanical infrastructure and building systems.
Coordinate construction activities within occupied research, laboratory, and healthcare facilities
Ensure compliance with applicable Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), ASHRAE standards, and other applicable codes
Support the development, organization, scheduling, and implementation of projects involving mission-critical building mechanical systems
Review Architecture and Engineering (A/E) design drawings, specifications, submittals, and cost estimates for Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) compliance
Participate in project execution and kickoff meetings
Support Quality Assurance (QA) and safety compliance activities
Perform functional testing and commissioning of systems
Verify design, installation, functionality and performance of systems
Support construction activities ensuring compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and ASHRAE
Provide advisory support for maintenance and repair of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), water distribution, plumbing, laboratory gases, medical gas, fire suppression, building automation and control systems
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in healthcare, medical research, and/or academia facility field
Minimum three (3) years’ within the last four (4) years’ experience with execution of design, construction, major repair, or management of mechanical physical plant/infrastructure systems supporting institutional, industrial, or medical healthcare campuses
Minimum five (5) years’ design/consulting experience
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience with facility mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, chilled water and heating hot water systems, steam and condensate systems, chilled water and heating hot water systems, steam and condensate systems, laboratory air and specialty gas systems, potable and non-potable water distribution systems, sanitary and storm drainage systems, building automation and contract systems (BAS)
Experience with other building mechanical infrastructure supporting research and healthcare operations
Experience coordinating mechanical work in occupied research, laboratory, or healthcare facilities Preferred
Experience with DoD or healthcare facilities
Possess analytical and cost estimation skills
Possess strong communication skills
